I don’t know anything about the music business, and neither does 99.9% of those who responded, but all the experts come out in full force. Scooter Braun's Ithaca Holdings buys Big Machine Label Group for $300 millionLike everything else in Hoofyville this has no relevance to mine or anyone else’s every day life but we must act like the end of the world is here regardless of which side someone is on!

A very rich woman playing the gender and victim cards to whip up a Twitter storm among people who don't know literally the first thing about a recording contract. Cry me a river. Taylor Swift had the option of resigning to eventually regain her masters. She chose not to. Okay, it's a choice. Don't start whining now. She also could have bought the label, of course. But she didn't. And that makes sense, because although all her records on that label sold a ton, I don't imagine that this is a catalog for the ages. We're not talking The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones etc. The catalog has future value, but I don't imagine in the end analysis it has huge future value, ie enough value to justify Swift buying the label to get it. OK, so she made the right decision, by your reasoning. So she should STFU now. She made an informed decision. All done. It's not 'music friends, it's music business' Zero sympathy for the artist in question. Sorry. Someone tell Mick and Keith to fire up their tumblr account and whine about ABKCO. This does seem to be the time, before her voice noticeably ages, to get into the studio and record a note for note copy of her greatest hits for her current label. I'm not taking any sides but she does seem to be portraying herself as the victim. After hearing her sing live on the riverfront here in Nashville before she was anyone, I was surprised her career went anywhere. Modern technology is amazing. I've heard a lot of modern era country singers sing before everything gets "fixed". A howling dog is more pleasant than most of them. I sympathized with Paul McCarntey’s position when MJ bought his stuff, so I’ll side with TS. The artist should be given first refusal to match an offer. It’s only polite. Contracts don't work with politeness Right. I mean, what's the end game here? Let's say Swift can mobilize her army of fans. What are they going to do? Promise never to buy another album from Big Machine (given the lack of overlap between rabid Swift fans and country music fans who actually buy country albums probably a loss in sales of about 5 copies)? Threaten to burn their Big Machine era Taylor Swift albums. Make Scooter Braun feel really really sad? Swift should do what she does best, and turn her pain into art. Make her Emancipation album. Hopefully under her own name, and not using a glyph. Too bad she doesn't own Big Machine one more album. She could create her own Here My Dear.

These are the same people who cry like little bitches when recalling Badfinger's contractual woes. That was different.

Taylor Swift is with The Gays so we are against Taylor Swift.
Funny how Kanye has a more positive rep in boomerland than Taylor Swift. Who would have thought that'd be the case 8 years ago.

Try 2 years ago. Tay Tay was the ultimate fantasy for white supremacy types.

I was hoping this thread was something entirely different.

Tellingly, none of these lovely music-lovers saw ANY connection to the Universal fire-and-cover-up. Did any of them ask themselves who would have done a better job of warehousing master tapes: the artists or the accountants? They're too busy wymmyn-hatin' to see the Titanic-sized internal contradiction in their *thinking*.

Everything was spelled out to them in that thread and they're too dense to get it.
