What do with Morrissey's music? - separating the art from the artist
Celebrities whether left leaning or right should STFU when it comes to politics so far as I'm concerned because it loses them approx 50% of their followers. Morrissey would have been much better off following that advice.
He said that people tend to stick to their own kind, which is historically correct. Why do immigrants tend to build ghettos? Why do Brits huddle together in Spain? Pakistanis in Bradford, UK etc? The trouble is when educated, atheist liberals assume that everyone shares their viewpoint and has their tolerance. If everyone thought this way then we would be living in Utopia.
I enjoyed it. Particularly Israel. And the man is in fine voice.
A shame that Glastonbury doesn't like diversity of opinion but quite happy to support trashing the Somerset countryside. Those people are not welcome.
Sadly, I think in recent years ahead we will be "disavowing" many of our past heroes.
But it does show the irrational, illogical, emotion-driven nature of this outrage culture. Ginsberg actively promoted the legalization of pedophilia, which one would think would be considered a big no-no in this day and age. But I guess since nobody on Twitter thought of mentioning the guy, nobody cares. But if someone did mention it tomorrow morning, and if it was somehow picked up by some "influential" twitter users, the whole movie could be removed from Netflix before the day is over. And if some MORE people retweeted the info, then Scorsese might have to issue a public apology. All this for something nobody even bothered to notice the first time around.

Morrissey is Morrissey. He has the same views now which I also support. If you cannot separate art from the artist, you have a problem, though.sunking101 said:
There is a certain left-leaning and politically correct agenda in mainstream Western politics at the moment. Anyone right of far left is considered a bad apple and anyone right of centre, even by a millimeter, is that Austrian chap reincarnated.Celebrities whether left leaning or right should STFU when it comes to politics so far as I'm concerned because it loses them approx 50% of their followers. You're leaving out the "Morrissey only likes white people" part. As one would, when they realize they're an inch away from losing an argument. The MEZ said:
I was anti Ginsberg in the Rolling Thunder Revue thread to no avail. It seems "most" were ok with his sampling the local Moroccan little boys. There was no "moral outrage". Seems he "gets a pass". I still "disavow" Ginsberg!sunking101 said:
I just don't see the racism. He speaks close to the bone and discusses things others dare not (*or aren't stupid enough to these days.)He said that people tend to stick to their own kind, which is historically correct. In fact let us all "disavow" Ginsberg in unison!Somerset Scholar said:

I was at a Morrissey concert years back and I thought that in the middle of one of his songs he started to sing"I hate Republicans" ..... i really don't care but i guess his views have changed.Orson Swells said:

Yes and I am questioning Bob Dylan and Martin Scorsese for promoting Ginsberg in a positive light. He should of never even been included in Martin's recent Dylan film. Sickening! The MEZ said:
I cocur on Bowie as well. As great as his music and politics may be, he must be denounced as a person , for sex with children, if proven true.Sadly, I think in recent years ahead we will be "disavowing" many of our past heroes.

I'm a huge McCartney fan, but his extreme views on vegetarianism are appaling to me: he thinks that animals are as important as human beings, which to me is as wrong an idea -- philosophically and practically -- as can be imagined. Yet never would I boycott the man's music because of that. I guess I'm tolerant and open-minded. But there are people who say they are, but don't know the meaning of the words. The MEZ said:
Somebody just told me the child groupie David Bowie deflowered was only 14 . Ugh.The MEZ said:

I made that point in another thread. I personally don't care, for reasons I've just pointed out; in fact, I'd be against Ginsberg being taken out/not mentioned in the movie because of his actions or views. But it does show the irrational, illogical, emotion-driven nature of this outrage culture. Ginsberg actively promoted the legalization of pedophilia, which one would think would be considered a big no-no in this day and age. His presence just "ruins" the movie for me. Everytime I am enjoying the movie and the perv gets screentime, all I see are little Morrocan boys asking why and for help. Ginsberg is a scumbag! I don't care he wrote "Howl" either. It doesn't make it right.
