"I posted pretty vehemently over there, before the announcement, that I thought just WHO wasn't good...that it would confuse internet searches & lose business, & if they wanted to use WHO, at least use The or Who Knows or cares, or Who does or anything besides...just WHO.....Bomber a moderator over there got a little miffed, saying its a good title...but as someone pointed out....its the music that counts..
But yeah Detour after the catchy 65ish WHO R&B groove song...& the original band name...nah call it WHO.... The Who-WHO......eegads ! Yikes...we're getting confused just trying to use it in this discussion..
I'm amazed & grateful they did it, surprised after so many aborted attempts or announcements, by god they did it ! Theyre 75 years old ! But they did it, with 54 year old Zak drumming !!!! The apprenticeship is longer than for religious scribes or diamond cutters or anything I can think of..25-30 years with the band before he does the album !!"

Off again: what the fuck is he on about. "I want to just push like for you're post & agree with you. Honestly though, I don't think hearing 'only' Ball & Chain thus far, off the actual album tells us what the whole thing is like.. BUT...it's a good start.. Now on the other side supporting your assertion that Ball & Chain & the new album, are more WHO-like than anything off of Endless Wire...1st supporting that claim...we know factually Zak played on at least 8-9 tracks, maybe all 11... in addition to laying down the drums, we know he also added drum-percussion overdubs on at least a few tracks, like the kick drum with padded mallets, seen in the vlogs... We also ( some of us )...saw & heard the 6-7 days of Pete's new album vlogs, clearly Detour, The other one with the Rickenbacker 12 string, & other songs do sound band-like & more WHO-like than Endless Wire..& we saw multiple videos of Hero Ground Zero from the live concerts, & it also sounds very Who-like...& band like.. So yeah common sense tells us at least some of the album sounds like a band & like The WHO...i'd guess most of it does, supposedly that was their intent.. Townshend is playing the Jaw Harp & gourd shaker ala Join Together on the one tune...there is some WHO in there for sure.. One writer the other day..( forget the name sorry ) in his review of an advance copy, said it was the best WHO album since Who By Numbers in 1975..... "APPARENTLY-There are advance copies about !" I Digress sorry.... It's killing me the waiting, i'm really hoping Ball & Chain isin't the best or most Who like moment or track on the new lp..it's pretty good, but i'm expecting a few tracks that blow that one away....I'm thinking both Daltrey's involvement & Dave Sardy's...kept steering the album back towards being The WHO, everytime Townshend got a strange idea during recording.. Anybody heard a preview copy, that's willing tp describe a few of the tracks?" The best Who album since "Who By Numbers" That album is shit. What a yardstick...….

How anyone could wonder what a Who record is going to sound like in 2019 is beyond me.

Giles is already "touching" it, as he is already working on the project. So it's too late to recall him.
This is the most salient point. Bravo.
Giles M. Isin't my ideal guy to be doing it, on a 1-10 scale of what he's done so far, I give say a 7. Passing grade, with imho, White 50 & Beatles Love being the best 2 so far.
The other issue isin't about who but What. That is will the Beatles & estates allow a work up replete with flyins, multiple takes, spectral type editing etc, to turn 10-20 of those Twickenham rehearsals into listenable records. I'd really like to see that, along with legitimate outtakes like Peggy Sue Got Married etc..
So my guess is we'll get little or probably none of that. I picture what I'd like besides the album remix, remove 90% & what's left, will be the content next year.

Or a possible 1969 version of "Now And Then"?...………...

Listen To The Who’s ‘All This Music Must Fade’ From ‘Who’ Album
Now they're saying the release date has been pushed to Dec. 6th.
NOOOOOOO DONT LET TOWNSHEND TOUCH THE TAPES !!
MY GOD is that Good ! Bloody fantastic! Now that friends is a proper single ! From the early vlogs I believe Detour is probably just as catchy & good !!@ OH WOW am I one happy dude...played it 5-6 times straight on spotify...and I'm going back for 3-4 more !!@ we've heard some version of 3 tracks..and some us heard quite a bit of Detour....
Even if the other 7 weren't good, it's already worth it !! And that won't be the case I'm sure....this album is a winner !!!! It sounds like the WHO !! DALTREY sounds FANTASTIC !!! that Robert Johnson 94 year old bluesman on ball & chain was just the character for that tune....he sounds like he's 42 on this one!!!!
Any qualms I had about the production or Daltrey's voice are gone...did you guys dig all those WHO backround vocals & Townshends close answer vocal !!! YES It's the bloody WHO sounds just like them !!!!! I know they won't all be this commercial, and there might be 2 or 3 even better than this one !! Whatever the case. We've heard enough to know, we can take this one to the bank !!!!! Oh lordy they did it !!! 74 & 75 & they bloody did a solid one !!! Ooh yeah !!!! johnny moondog 909, Yesterday at 4:44 AM

I'm excited to hear this. I felt real let down when I learned, they chose not to include John Lennon's vocals, & that McCartney's involvement was somewhat brief & limited. But I am looking forward to hearing it.
It's now 'next week' any word on when ? Where ? We can hear it. johnny moondog 909, Today at 6:33 AM
An even bigger let down awaits you. You fucking idiot.

Now the retarded rambling garden/gardener analogy.....
"I'm just a gardner, a horticulturist, like so many of us here on the forum & in the world...my rake, & spade, seedlings, & tools, are limiters, good songs, tape machines, tea towels on drums...I spent a lifetime learning about that stuff out of love, I found it interesting, Pete Townshend is a far better gardner than I'll ever be...so are many people....But I learned a lot about how to water the plans, when to do it, how to put the seeds in the soil, how different plants need different conditions, more shade, less shade, I learned a lot about that stuff over a lifetime, others do it better than I can, but I learned a lot about seeds ( songs ) & how to make them grow..."
On second thoughts:
"I'm not The Who's gardner, no one here is., but I am a gardener, many here are, Pete & Roger & Dave Sardy tend the WHO garden, they are great at it.."
Truth dawns:
"Im not a genius, not hired, solicited for my opinions, Steve Hoffman kindly allows me to express sincere music-recording opinions, on his forum with all of you."
Finally:
"What I view in my gardening experience, as Endless Wire issue---getting a less bandlike sound by recording with whoever happens to be handy. Isin't a problem in the eyes of Townshend, Daltrey or Sardy...so as they say i'll move along now."
