Fortunately, we got lucky and backed none other than John Lennon on his album! Unfortunately, it's the most abysmally awful album he ever made!
Fortunately, we then got John Lennon to produce our own next album! Unfortunately, it was so bad it was barely ever heard and has been out of print since the Ford administration!
What's funny to me is that Elephant's Memory had that sound from that era I so greatly dislike - kind of a wall of sound with guitars and saxophones blaring artlessly away at top volume over twelve bar blues changes. Then Lennon ditches them, and makes some records with Phil Spector and session musicians, and it's that same bloody morass of noise blowing tastelessly throughout every uptempo track.

Don't Let Me Down, being absent on the "official" album proper. Is nothing more or less, than a short term, or shortsighted maneuver by Allen Klein. In order to create a cash royalty or cash advance, from the newly created Hey Jude compilation album. Hey Jude could have been a good compilation album, with the feel & sound of yet another proper studio album. If they had restricted themselves to songs only from 68-69 or 67-69. If they had readied mixes of songs like Not Guilty- Inner Light, to flesh it out, without dipping back to 1964 for Can't Buy Me Love-Should have Known Better. They could've gotten a Faux or fake extra new album, like Mystery Tour But they did what they did. Essentially ruining the symmetry or balance of Let It Be. By upsetting the John-Paul balance of writing lead singing. They could've had George fill the gap with 1 or 2 more of his songs, or worked up the poppy Mr Mustard as a stand alone gem. Or any of a dozen other Lennon tunes. But 6 weeks after completing a 30 song double album & then filming recording in 2 or 3 weeks is asinine imo. If I had been Joe Lockwood at EMI hearing about the goings on. I would've bribed, threatened, enticed, everybody to keep those tapes rolling for an extra 2 or 3 or 4 weeks, they were writing, recording, in 2 or 3 full days, "we-now, us the fans" would have another 4 or 5 originals & 20 or 30 good covers of 50's tunes to listen to !!!!

It's too bad they didn't capture any footage of the guitar solos being flown in.

The production is a bit rushed, the songs are all tinged in politics & or social commentary of the times. Women's Lib, Vietmam War, No Ireland, Pot being a serious felony etc etc... Worst of all for me personally, there aren't quite enough Lennon lead vocals to comprise a full alternate album of Lennon singing lead. Nothing Gainst Yoko, her singing is mostly ok, even good on a couple tracks, I just happen to be A Lennon & Beatles fan. These are good songs a bit rude and brusque on the lyrics & quickly done studio tracks....with a local street band instead of the usual studio pros. It's good stuff, it's fresh---not being overplayed the last 50 years. It's more John ! He only did 4 Lennon albums & 3 John/Yoko albums of original stuff ! NOW WE ARE REMINDED Of one more & it's good ! They need to tell us what's on it !! I believe with a couple vocal fly ins, digital work, pro-tools, that the studio rehearsals of Hound Dog & Caribbean are both good enough for 2 studio bonus tracks,, maybe 1 or 2 others & all the alternate takes for alternate fans.

That makes sense. By the way I recall reading George Martin really disliked Denny Laine either as a person or at least being in a studio with him, in fact I wonder if George Martin influenced ending Wings during those sessions...not overtly, necessarily.. As to Harrison , not getting around to Wanderlust, I've prayed more than once, Tight A$ Dhani let's us a get a peek & listen, to the FPSHOT Archives Can a Gort PLEASE fix that ridiculously long gap between paragraphs, for some reason I cannot

All these years on and those morons still say "can a gort, blah blah blah." How many times does someone have to tell these goons to just click the fucking report button. They act like gorts are patrolling threads 24/7 looking to fix typos and shit.

The gorfs limit their 24/7 patrolling to criticisms of DaDDY.

hopefully I am wrong, but I don't know of any plans in this current Darkhorse program, or any other plan, to release George singing new stuff we've never been allowed to hear, stuff like Harrison singing That Kind Of Woman, or the much rumored Valentine, or songs he wrote or cowrote for Ringo, Photograph, Sunshine Life For Me, the 66 demo for Art of dying with a semi Revolver feel, a full mix of that silly one with the Bonzo guy, medium grade sound, Doing The Bonzo Dog, I imagine Bonzo Dog in a good mix is roughly comparable in quality-fidelity sonics to say Cheer Down Cockamamie Business Poor Little Girl, I believe Bonzo Dog was recorded within a few years of those, we have a lofi partial demo, and there are a dozen more I could probably think of. Of course the thinking is, despite what Olivia Harrison often says in the press, smart thinking tends to believe her comments are either misinformed, or deliberately obtuse...The son Dhani said Harrisons archives were 'Unbelievable" and other times, he said he felt the unreleased stuff was his, a part of his dad, he didin't want to share with the world. Dhani also railed on about not wanting to give up his career to spend his life as the archivist for his dads work, and understndably wants to concentrate on his new music instead... But like the other remarks from the family, it was specious... Why specious ? because none of these are either or choices, a professional archivist can easily be hired, they have the financial means to easily repair or relocate the Harrison recordings from the water leaky storage building, or just fix the building, apparently both Giles Martin and Ken Scott, and a 3rd fellow, an archivist was hired at least briefly, there was an announcement a few years ago. a year or two before the announcement of the archivist, Olivia made news with two different stories, One that a song each would be given to Harrison's friends, Clapton, McCartney. Jeff Lynne, etc, and a new posthumous album would be done in that manner, his friends finishing half completed songs or whatever, the other story she started, was that her son would likely produce a new George album, based on remaining archive material, presumably, a lot of Brainwashed era songs, remain in various states of completion from done to half done to less... George himself said at least twice, he had about 35 finished to half finished of what became the Brainwashed album....12 new tracks on the album & Harrison said and journalist said about 35, leaving roughly 2 dozen still unheard by public. I know this thread is more designed from a re-releasing material from some of the great Dark Horse artists George signed, like Ravi Shankar and Splinter and others. BUT, what about something new from Harrison's archives, the recent ATMP anniversary box, while not necessarily a sonic improvement, did have a quite a few bonus tracks in good fidelity, including a few songs we'd never heard, and a few alternates worth hearing for sure. So yeah I appreciate the Dark Horse artists in their own right, and the ATMP bonus material, but lets face it, the primary artist on Dark Horse was and is always George Harrison himself. How about that kind of Woman with a George Harrison vocal, I'm not reading all that — but congrats, or sorry you had to go through it, whichever applies
