Hello, I wanted to give all Kinks fans (of their "theatric" era) a heads-up, that the compilation "Celluloid Heroes" is available on iTunes (and Spotify!) in its original 12-Track form with unique mixes of many songs, plus the exclusive track, a live version of "Here comes yet another day".STeVE Hoffman said:
How could the original LP contain alternative mixes? Those would be the original mixes, wouldn’t they?curbach said:
It’s a compilation album. Several of the tracks are different from the versions on the original albums. If I recall correctly, the liner notes don’t mention any remixing either, but it’s been along time since I pulled this lp out.STeVE Hoffman said:
I see. Confusing. I know many songs from that Kinks era were remixed just after LP release for possible single releases. Maybe someone got mixed up.Arnold Grove said:
No. Ray Davies purposefully remixed and edited most of the tracks just for this Celluloid Heroes/Greatest Hits LP in 1976. Very confusing. Most latter reissues of this album in the CD era reverted to the regular mixes from the original RCA-era albums, so this compilation LP was chock full of uniquely mixed/edited rarities.Side 1

So what about songs like SWEET LADY GENEVIEVE (RCA-2418) and LAVENDER LANE (reject from Muswell Hillbillies)? Are those on anything?

Lavender Lane was on one of the later Muswell reissues. Was Genevieve a different version.mix on the single?STeVE Hoffman said:
Yes, as far as I can tell. It was issued on August 23, 1973.. Have never seen a copy.Arnold Grove said:
If the version of Sweet Lady Genevieve had a unique single mix, it is NOT mentioned on Dave Emlen's usually excellent Kinks website < Unofficial Kinks Web Site - KindaKinks.net >.Lavender Lane turned up decades later as a bonus track on deluxe CD versions of the Muswell Hillbillies album.

Well, I'm confused. I looked at his Discography. Where is 20th Century Man with Skin And Bone on the B side? That was issued in 1971, right? Has to have been a short version, the LP version was 5:50..jacethecrowl said:
Discogs says 1972, and 3:59.STeVE Hoffman said:
A remix or just and edit? Same for Celluloid Heroes, etc?Arnold Grove said:
Some items are hard to search for. But that 45 is indeed listed on Emlen's Kinks site: 20th Century Man/Skin and Bone A side

I guess what I'm asking is are these 1971-73 singles just edited down album dubs or actual period remixes? I have never laid eyes on any of them...
