Help me out here. When's the last time a German band hit number one in the US, Hot 100 or Billboard 200?
How many albums have sales certified 10 million in Germany? How many are certified 10 million in Japan? How many are certified 10 million in the UK?
Fusionfan gets a little pissy:
I have been helping you out but you are too ill informed and stubborn (a truly lamentable combination) to appreciate it.
I have been giving you an important metric to measure the relative popularity of rock in the countries I am analyzing by means of album charts for each country broken down by genre.
Not only is German rock like Rammstein or Bohse Onkelz or Frei Wild doing incredibly well in Germany, Austria, Switzerland etc but also bands like Deep Purple, Steven Wilson, Rival Sons, Amon Amarth and Opeth etc are doing better in those same countries as are even more mainstream American rock acts like Bruce Springsteen.
Asking which German bands hit #1 in the US is so laughably beside the point that I wonder if you are even thinking when you type. This is about how entire GENRES perform. When the 3rd biggest market in the world (which sets the pace for much of the rest of Europe too) has 48 rock albums in their top 100 compared to 12 hip hop albums and rock dominates their live music market more than any genre, you should rethink things and admit your ignorance.
Nonetheless, as it happens, Rammstein just hit #9 in the US and #1 in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Finland, Poland, Norway, France, Portugal, Switzerland and Germany while going to #2 in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Scotland, Spain and Sweden and #3 in Mexico, the UK, #4 in Greece, #5 in Australia, Italy and Canada etc.
They also managed to simultaneously chart 9 albums in the album charts in Germany and 11 singles in the top 60, including a #1.
Moreover, rock is the most popular genre on many album charts around the world and still is the biggest single driver of ticket sales of any genre. I supplied numerous charts, all analyzed in multiple languages and gave you a break down of Pollstar's concert data for 2017 by genre.
Instead of showing some appreciation, opening your eyes and learning you continue to swing wildly and miss.
And so on, and so on. He hasn't gotten to Bulgaria or Moldova yet, but it's only a matter of time.
