There was an old man of St. Bees, Who was stung in the arm by a wasp. When asked, "Does it hurt?" He replied, "No, it doesn't. I'm so glad that it wasn't a hornet.

In Randy Newman's "It's A Jungle Out There" (aka the theme from Monk), he sings "People say I'm crazy cos I worry all the time If you paid attention you'd be worried too You better pay attention or this world we love so much Might just kill you" Not a rhyme, but it always pestered me how he sings "paid attention" and "pay attention" so close together. Why Don't We Do It In The Road Not necessarily rhyming a word with itself, but I've always found the lyric in Loverboy's "Working for the Weekend" that says "you gotta start from the start" to be incredibly bad. Every time that stupid song has come on the radio (almost always on a Friday afternoon, too) over the last 30+ years and I hear that, I cringe. A few of Beach Boys lyrics rhyme "now" with "now". Tony and Mike were well at it. For example... "It starts with just a little glance now, Right away you're thinking 'bout romance now..." "Well she got her daddy's car and she cruised to the hamburger stand now, Seems she forgot all about the lib-rary like she told her old man now..." The Beatles - I've Just Seen a Face I've just seen a face I can't forget the time or place Where we just metShe's just the girl for me And I want all the world to see We've met, mm-mm-mm-m'mm-mm Skynyrd Ooooh that smell Can't you smell that smell All kinds of awful. Parliament: Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker) May as well post the entire thing. Tear the roof off We're gonna tear the roof off the mother sucker Tear the roof off the sucker Tear the roof off We're gonna tear the roof off the mother sucker Tear the roof off the sucker Tear the roof off We're gonna tear the roof off the mother sucker Tear the roof off the sucker Tear the roof off We're gonna tear the roof off the mother sucker Tear the roof off the sucker You've got a real type of thing goin' down, gettin' down There's a whole lot of rhythm goin' round You've got a real type of thing goin' down, gettin' down There's a whole lot of rhythm goin' round Oww, we want the funk, give up the funk Oww, we need the funk, we gotta have that funk Oww, we want the funk, give up the funk Oww, we need the funk, we gotta have that funk Four pages in and it’s clear SH.TV doesn’t understand rhyming. Van Hagar-Why Can't This be Love? "Only time will tell if we stand the test of time." Ok, maybe it's not rhyming a word with itself but it's still lazy and awful

Are they trolling or really not understanding that in most of these examples the rhyme is the second to last word of the line? Also, do these audiophiles who love nothing more than music not understand what an improper rhyme is?

We have a similar thread somewhere with the SHites stumbling over the concept of puns, so I am voting for they are really that stupid.

Kanye West. Rhymes money with money She was supposed to buy your shorty Tyco with your money She went to the doctor, got lipo with your money She walkin' around lookin' like Michael with your money Shoulda got that insured, Geico for your money I am still perplexed that there are people out there who consider him a great artist. These are horrible, sophomoric lyrics, regardless of rhyming issues. Man ! That Kanye is something else innit he? What a wordsmith. He’s not rhyming money, but he is oddly trying to rhyme “Michael” with Tyco, Lipo and Geico.

Cringe Rhymes & Other Sloppy SongwritingI'm sure Rap has so many it should be disqualified. In his 60 Minutes interview Yip Harburg was asked if rhymes were all-important to a songwriter, and he replied. "They are to a hack". But in the same interview he disparaged what he called "almost-rhymes". I think there is a balance that needs to be struck. Not the sloppiness of rap or "TTM&R", but not a fanatical rhyme-at-all-costs attitude either (see Mark Steyn's attempts to rewrite "Wichita Lineman" for the latter).
