I have every Beach Boys studio release and a lot of boots. That being said, Sunflower on are pretty unbearable.
Desper really freaked out when those Beach Boys SACDs came out with a multi-channel program on some with his ambient surround mixes. I think his head may have exploded. He's a odd duck.

I'm a Beach Boys nerd, and on another (invite-only) message board there are some other Beach Boys nerds and the discussion there is nothing like the nonsense at SHF. There's a lot of intelligent convo to be had of practically any band, provided the participants aren't a bunch of idiot audiophiles. Even the Beach Boys haters there have amusing things to contribute.

Sunflower: a decent EP struggling to get out of an LP.
I prefer my Beach Boys from when Brian was still alive. Before 1968.

I really like Sunflower, cover and all. Its only real flaw is a lack of Al lead vocals, which is fixed on the UK version as it includes the single version of Cottonfields.

It’s in the lower 25% of Beach Boys albums, but it’s 85% better than Keepin’ the Summer Alive.

I don't quite understand your hate for Sunflower. An album that has "This Whole World" can't be that bad.

Did you guys see Ricko's new thread about sexual harassment in songs? He says he's never been the victim of sexual harassment in his OP. Can you believe that?

This Whole World and Add Some Music are great, but the rest is absolute dreck, especially the TWO Bruce Johnston songs (isn’t one bad enough?).

I don't think I've ever heard a full Beach Boys album (save for the 2011 SMiLE). Recommend me?
(please don't.)

Sunflower sucks. When Mike Love’s only great moment is the best thing on the album, that’s fucking sad. Carl & The Passions, that’s where it’s at!! Is there some hidden 5.1 mix of that album that Desper is losing his shit about because they didn’t use his secret decoder ring to properly master it?

I'd love to get a digital copyright dump every year from my favorite bands. These idiots can never be satisfied.

I can’t believe that made the cut over “San Miguel” or even “Susie Cincinnati.”

I like my Beach Boys to be pumped full of drugs (where possible).
