Seeing Belew whinge about his situation to a bunch of sycophantic Hoffmanites was an embarrassment.
On a side note, I still don’t like Jakko’s singing of the spoken-word Indiscipline (one of the key issues for Belew apparently), but the current band have turned it into a brilliant piece of musical theatre.

I think that Belew being an egomaniacal dickhead and insisting on being paid more than the rest of the band also had a lot to do with his being dismissed (or not being asked back, or however you wish to see it). There's also the fact that Belew-fronted KC had long since run its course. Regardless, Belew didn't make himself look any better when he publicly whined about the situation — and even went to SH.tv to bitch about it. Truly pathetic. This happened?

Wow. Since KC has suddenly appeared on Apple Music I’ve been binging the Belew stuff and loving it.
Have they really not made a studio album since 2003?

Crimson is a blind spot for me, and this explains it. Only listened to studio stuff.

I never cared much for the Belew era Crimson. They were like pwog for NYC hipsters; a brief moment in time when it was OK to admit you had any pwog in your collection.

Red is a great album, imho. USA makes a fine companion to it, as well.

I never paid much attention to the group, aside from Schizoid Man and In The Court Of (and Fripp's work with Bowie.) But when they first got back together in 2014, I decided to go see them (based mainly on the enthusiasm from a SHiTE thread.) Definitely worth it. Starless was a real highlight. And despite Fripp's pleas, I recorded the whole show so I can listen back to it whenever I want.

Got to disagree on the triple drummer approach; it really works in person but also, I haven’t listened to the recordings. Given how the three seem to have scheduled their own parts between themselves, and done a pretty decent job of not overpowering the rest of the band, I think it succeeds beyond novelty. It also helps that Jeremy Stacey (now I guess Rieflin’s gone for good) is 50/50 between drums and keyboards.
And this is a reach, but I think Mastelotto’s presence is Fripp’s attempt to recapture the spirit of Jamie Muir, at least superficially; there’s no way he can get the spontaneous anarchy, but he has the literal bells and whistles.

For me the multi drum thing 'works' live when the three play something that shows off the format (like, hocketed parts, or originally multi percussion stuff like Larks I). For something like 'Islands', a fucking snoozefest of a tune if there ever was one anyway, >1 drummer is pointless to the point of absurdity-- they use two on it now, the third drummer plays keyboards.
Mel Collins is definitely a highlight of the current band, he plays with passion and inventiveness. Tony Levin is always on point too though in concert you're at the mercy of the house acoustics and the mixer if you want to hear what he's playing rather than just watch. Needs more treble.

Wow, that gap is almost as egregious as the one between Her Majesty and Polythene Pam.

Palmer-James was in Supertramp, so that’s all you need to know about that.
(And to be fair, the worst offender in the KC canon in the women-as-meat lyrics is Ladies Of The Road, which was written by Pete Sinfield)
