It might have been posted here, either that or I saw it somewhere else. I'm too fat and lazy to look. But if you really want to be a pedantic turd and go by the name of "rock and roll", it would be Little Richard, Chuck Berry, a handful of 50s artists and AC/DC. It's not the "rock hall of fame". I get it, it's cool to get the recognition and everything, but it ain't life or fucking death.

I get it, it's cool to get the recognition and everything, but it ain't life or fucking death. I was thinking about this too, unrelated to hoofyville. You have the architects and originators of rock n roll, and then you have all the artists from the 60s and into the 70s who, directly or by one degree of separation, were inspired by them. And that's where it ends. The real spirit of rock and roll has long since left the building...
...if it was ever there. Rock and roll ain't about no tuxedos and champagne, critical recognition, award ceremonies on big stages, man. That was already a bastardization but it was balanced by the fact that the inductions were drunken, shambolic messes where some truly "historic" or at least major footnote-worthy events occurred, plus they were a loving and living tribute to a lot of people who were being forgotten. But rock n roll? You can probably measure how rock n roll it is by the presence of Keith Richards. Early on, he was a mainstay. The less he showed up, the less rock n roll it became. He hasn't showed up since 2007.
*historic moments include the unofficial end of The Rolling Stones World War 3, John Fogerty singing a Creedence song, and Mike Love being a shithead. Oh, and Prince tearing the fuck out of While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

I only even give a shit because I have a bunch of recordings from the Hall Of Fame and listen to them a decent amount.

This is like Christmas for me! The tears as people that aren't old white guys born between 1940 and 1955 are inducted! I say this every year, but we are getting closer to when Mt. Shiteville erupts, the year Taylor Swift gets nominated in her first year of eligibility, and then inducted by a landslide.

Rakim changed rapping forever. Smooth as fuck. He compared his flow to Coltrane. More deserving than fucking Foreigner.

Rakim Coltrane Foreigner "one of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong!"

That's what cracks me up about the "rock" purists. They aren't asking about the Buzzcocks, Siouxsee, Can, Joy Division, etc (just one person's random handful of groups with sounds that endured); placing Foreigner over Tribe or Rakim because it's "rock," but it's not the Hall of Mediocre Trend Followers; something like Van Halen or Boston should suffice for the AOR wing

Except she'd probably have to die very young in order for the Hall to invoke any Clemente-style early induction. The Shites would have to decide whether to be more pissed off at her making the HOF than they were overjoyed that she was dead. "Shites" autocorrects to "Whites," btw. Cool to see a Clemente mention, for any reason.

Oasis is the only nomination even close to Rock 'n' Roll. Are any of the other nominations good enough to kick out Elvis or Chuck Berry to grant their admittance? This doesn't seem like a fair standard—surely Oasis isn't good enough to kick out Elvis or Chuck Berry either! They're the closest on that list. Lenny Kravitz wrote a great album for Vanessa Paradis but he's not being nominated for that. My point is, how many acts are good enough to kick out Elvis or Chuck? Five? Six? That many, even? You can't run a Hall of Fame on that kind of standard. I'd say exactly none, without Chuck and Elvis you don't have a Rock 'n Roll Hall. But there would be Mariah.

I can’t believe all the posts claiming this is the worst pool of artists ever. One guy even said he thought the announcement listing the artists was a parody.
