Mostly a bunch of names that should already be in. Speaking of which; most people I talk to (about this awful art institution) assume, famous bands like....ELP, Jethro Tull, Supertramp and the Doobie Brothers are already in. I'm going to wait and read this entire thread over the weekend and take a drink every time someone posts "X artist isn't rock and roll". And a drink and a half every time someone says "X artist doesn't deserve to be in". The R&R Hall of Fame sucks. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Thanks for the plug, Barnabas! 👍

"Black Cat" by Janet Jackson rocks way harder than most of the wimp rock these clowns say are worthier of induction.

I was dumb enough to listen to a Three Dog Night compilation after all these nitwits kept mentioning them. It was fucking terrible, like the "rock music" you'd hear in "The Brady Bunch". Eat shit.

I can’t even begin to post all the stupid shit from there. Donald Fagen needs a solo induction? Todd Rundgren invented the Jennifer Aniston haircut? Jesus fucking christ

The day they release the R&R Hall of Fame list of nominees is second only to Dec 8th as best day of the year!

They don't care about the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame means nothing to them. They're going to write 27 posts in the Hall of Fame thread about how irrelevant it is, just to prove how little relevance it has. Zero relevance really. In fact, none at all. It's a sham. It should be called the Hall of Shame. That's how irrelevant it is. Oh, why aren't Jethro Tull in? Sob.

Music really is a competition to these joyless cunts, isn't it? They spent their adolescence being too 'special' for sports, but somehow need validation of winning. Don't get me wrong, I used to dread Wednesday afternoons (especially at a single-sex school obsessed with rugby) and I'm hardly in peak physical condition, but these fuckfaces probably needed a sports bra.

nicks - will probably get in, deserving or not, she has that 'thing' about her. the cure - i doubt it, not big enough radiohead - aka the thom yorke band, can the chris martin band (coldplay) be far behind? rage against the machine - probably having tom morello is big plus. rufus - only 2 singles in the top 10, ever. chaka khan had one with her prince cover, but this includes rufus, not just khan devo - i doubt it, although mike mothersbaugh has done some filmwork and wenner might like that. kraftwork - i doubt it even more than ever. i get the significance, but................ todd - between the nazz, utopia and solo, he has quite a body of work. deserving for sure. ll cool j - it's the rock and roll hall of fame, but of course we know that doesn't matter. plus he is a TV star, wenner likes that. the zombies - probably in, only 3 top 10 hits in the U.S. and only 1 in the UK. but, darlings to many oldsters. janet jackson - not in a million billion years, but she did show her tittie at the super bowl. john prine - maybe someday, but never ever before zevon, who is the single biggest omission ever in this god forsaken place.def leppard - journey is in, foreigner and styx probably aren't far behind. they might get in. MC5 - can you say sex pistols? no way, no how, ever. this is the biggest farce of them all (not including any rappers)roxy music - quite possibly the sleeper of the bunch. they were big in their day, and bryan ferry was a star. Most of them better than Bon Jovi which was the nadir of the hall of fame selections. Hell, even Huey Lewis and the News wouldnt be a worse inductee than Bon JOvi. Where is Squeeze? They have 6 or 7 songs better than most Bon Jovi songs. How about DEpeche Mode? Not sying they are deserving, but better than Bon Jovi Even Motley Crue has more quality rock songs than Bon Jovi. DEpeche Mode who had a wretched second half of their career had better songs than Bon jovi. NO PIXIES? ? No Maiden, no Hall. Seriously - they couldn't even get a f'ing nomination? I don't know why I even bother reading news about this institution. It's the hall of FAME. Fame, you dig? As in still selling out arenas after 40 years. As in transending the scope of their audience to become an iconic touchstone and symbol of metal, recognized - GLOBALLY - by old and young. Records sold, tickets sold, t-shirts sold, sewn-on patches sold, influence, etc. The numbers don't lie. Whatever. If Scholz hadn't wasted the prime of Boston's potential career in pissy litigation and hadn't been arrogant enough to think Brad's voice wasn't a large part of the reason for their success, I'd be fine with Boston being in. Yes, Rufus featuring Chaka Kahn should definitely be in before The Doobie Brothers. Of the nominees here is who I think does NOT deserve induction: Stevie Nicks: Ok she was great in Fleetwood Mac and she's been inducted as such. But c'mon... her solo success is basically an extension of Fleetwood Mac. She had 2 or maybe 3 successful solo albums that were pop hits on their own but not particularly ground-breaking or anything else. HARD PASS! Rage Against The Machine - They are a niche flash in the pan group but because they have a member on the committee they are probably a lock. But c'mon! What was so great or ground-breaking about them? They satisfied a certain audience for a certain period of time... but so did Poison! And they had more 'hits.' HARD PASS! John Prine - Are you kidding me? How is he even being discussed in the rock hall inductions? Not rock. Not famous. HARD PASS! Janet Jackson - Look... she made some popular music. She was famous for being a Jackson. She was an actress. She's done some decent things in her music career... but c'mon! There is nothing she ever did that was so ground-breaking or landmark that she deserves induction. Sure someone could cite Rhythm Nation or whatever as 'important' but it was all a marketing ploy! She will get in no doubt. But she is not rock. Wasn't all that important. Ok she has the hits to be famous. She has the fame without her hits to be famous. But she isn't 'rock' and therefore NO! SOFT PASS! I misread that as without her tits to be famous. Darn glasses. They're outspoken commies, and that makes them important. Their **** ******* ******** (redacted) guarantee them induction into the Rolling Stone magazine Rock and Roll Farce of Fame. If it's any consolation, if Todd gets inducted, Prarie will be in his band. Still no Tommy James or Chubby Checker.. More hits then all of the above.. 50 years on... The horrible thing about the Hall is they snub so many bands when they have most of their living line-ups still viable today. They wait until a key member(s) is dead or incapacitated before they even budge. One example is Judas Priest. True pioneers of an entire genre of music - HEAVY METAL - who check all the boxes - sales, influence, and so on. Glenn Tipton's Parkinson's Disease is of no consequence to them. :realmad: I'd put The Guess Who in there before just about anything on that list. Not to mention Ten Years After, who actually played...rock and roll. The whole thing is silliness. I have little hope that Todd will get in as a performer; as he has said, he personally had no #1 records. But as a producer, his importance is undeniable. The Band, Grand Funk, Badfinger, Cheap Trick, Bad Religion, Patti Smith, Sparks (Halnelson), Hall & Oates... The New York Dolls. XTC's Skylarking! I know Andy was annoyed that Todd wouldn't go along with his plan to make another Andy solo record with XTC backing him, but the album saved their career. Forever Now by Psychedelic Furs. That's Todd playing marimba on Love My Way! Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell would not exist without Todd! According to Steinman, they were starting new record companies just to reject Bat Out of Hell. Todd not only produced it, he played guitar, sang background vocals and did all the arrangements. According to Meat, Steinman can neither read or write music, and would hum what he wanted to Todd. Unless he's the most accomplished hummer the world has ever known and can hum multiple parts at once, he really didn't have much to do with the arrangements. That album sold some 45 million copies. 1st wave... MC5 Kraftwerk Roxy Music Todd Rundgren Devo 2nd wave... The Cure Def Leppard 3rd wave... Rage Against The Machine Radiohead Thinking... John Prine The Zombies Stevie Nicks NOPE.... Rufus featuring Chaka Khan LL Cool J Janet JacksonHmm what do the last 3 have in common. To be specific, he had studio time at Bearsville, and agreed to record the whole album on his tab until they could find a label to release it, taking the risk. He did it quickly, and most of the tracks were actually recorded live in first or second takes. Bearsville was owned by Albert Grossman, who negotiated Todd's contract, and he actually got Todd a bigger share than either Jim or Meat (it helps to have a shark on your side.) He said his first royalty check was "large six figures." Todd sold his share to Jim and Meat to get the cash to buy his land in Hawaii. Interestingly Todd, or whoever controls his Twitter account, did send out his HoF nomination: Interesting that they found a picture of him when he was 19. And, apparently not content with all the other stuff he invented, he also invented "The Rachel" hairstyle decades before Jennifer Anniston. Has Boz Skaggs been inducted? I think Donald Fagen should get a solo nomination (and induction, of course). IMHO, Kamakiriad and The Nightfly are almost perfect albums, no filler to my ears. Granted, but he spent far too large a percentage of his career not caring about sales to get the popular attention he deserved. I'm one of the biggest Todd fans on this forum, and even here, with one of the most musically knowledgeable groups of people you'll ever encounter, most are not familiar with his work after the Seventies. Sadly, most of the public only knows him from a tiny number of songs, and while I'd hope that the 1,000 people who are actually voting will be more familiar with his work, I wouldn't count on it. His work as a producer, on the other hand, is undeniable. So, at least when talking about the Rock Hall of Fame, I concentrate on that. Hopefully, that will lead people to consider him as a musician as well. "What do you mean, the same guy played the motorcycle guitar on Bat Out of Hell, the marimba on Love My Way and the cowbell on We're An American Band?" Todd's wife Michele Tweeted: We Rundgren’s are SO proud that Todd has been nominated to The RRHOF. He’s been smiling all day! TR Fans unite..... the day finally came!!!!! lets see tupac prine ll cool j or these guys who rocks more Stevie Nicks? ? Worlds gone nuts!! Assume one of the conditions of a nomination was she had to successfully oust LB from the band and therefore become it's "leader" Job done!!

Calling him "Meat" is almost as bad as the New York Times calling him "Mr Loaf".

The weekly reminder that Rundgren played the marimba on "Love My Way" is very useful.
