Susan and I share the same existential horror of mutant 1970s kids who were trotted out to "entertain" the masses. Good thing I am an atheist, because if hell existed, I just know it would involve Mason Reese. Pitchforks in the ass might be preferable to this:

I must be either a couple of years too young or just lucky, because I don’t remember ever seeing that freak in the 70s.

He seems to have gone from looking like the dwarf in Don’t Look Now to looking like a deflated Bruce Vilanch.

Rodney Allen Rippy was the other big flash-in-the-pan kid star from the early-to-mid 70s. (His big claim to fame was starring in a Jack-In-The-Box commercial.)
Unlike Mason Reese however, RAR was a cute kid. He seemed more natural than the precocious MR.
And while RAR was likable in TV commercials, he definitely wasn’t cut out to be a pop music superstar...

Luckily, I wasn't old enough to experience him in real time. I accidentally became aware of him in the late 1980s or early 1990s. But now through the magic of the useless fucking internet, we can all experience all two of his glories.
Here is the motherlode. An unsold pilot that even made the coked up network execs vomit in their mouths. This really does have to be the most incompetent and painfully unfunny TV pilot ever made.
All two of his glories...? I wish. Sadly, he was all over TV from the early to mid 70s. You couldn’t go a day or two without that red-headed demon seed popping up, trying to sell you something. For some unknown reason, Mason Reese got very popular, appeared in over 75 commercials, and actually won seven Clio awards... So, for those of you who weren’t around to experience what it was really like, trying watching these and then spare a little sympathy for those of us who got put up with him for many years...: Underwood Deviled Ham (This was a very popular commercial – it even won a Clio...): Dunkin Donuts’ Munchkins (This one I remember the most.): Post Raisin Bran: Ivory Snow (From 1969. He wasn’t so obnoxious yet...): Kung Fu Adventure Set: Betcha Bacon crackers:

I was a puny elementary-school-age student in the summer of ‘76, and couldn’t turn on the radio without hearing this festering piece of shit:
At the time, I had no idea who the Beatles (or its ex-members) were specifically, but I couldn’t change the station fast enough when I’d hear those goddamn opening door chimes...
Even to my young ears, I could not imagine why in the world anyone would write about something as trite as answering the fucking door!

For some reason, Joe's tried very hard to have this disappeared from the internet:
