If I had to guess, I'd say those look more like the work of Jamie Tate.

These edits (also sparkydog?) originally linked at the old SC. LOL!! No, that wasn't my vandalism.

I wouldn't consider it vandalism when it doesn't sound any more made up than the stories Hoofy tells.

For those that don't know, Raechel Donahue, along with her late husband Tom, founded the freeform rock radio format. They created KMET in the late 60s, and while Tom died in 1975, Raechel was still the music director and midday air personality up through 1977, when she was let go. So, you would think someone as important as our ol' friend STEVe would at least be remembered. Even just a little bit. I'm still waiting to hear back from Jim Ladd. I mean, if the Hoofster was picking out Ladd's groupies, surely he would remember him, right? Right? STEvE, as always, you are always welcome to sign up here and clear the air. But you won't. Because you're a grandstanding liar. And you've been caught far too many times.

Even better, she doesn't even ask "Wait, do you mean the Mastering -- erm, EQ Consultant? That Steve Hoffman?". Boy, for someone that is such a mover and shaker in the biz, it seems nobody remembers him around. Wonder why?

Ask her if she remembers the janitor whose mum drove him to and from work.

A quite incredible torrent of absolute horseshit. Walter-fucking-Mitty writ large.

A quite incredible torrent of absolute horseshit. Walter-fucking-Mitty writ large. Correct. He found his true calling years ago. After that remastering gig didn't turn out too hot (except in his head) STEVE found he had a real talent with smoke screens, screwing the goobs, obfuscation and outright lies. Credit where credit is due, I say.

It must be so liberating to not have to give one flying fuck about keeping your stories straight.

I still say STEVe was an intern if he was even there. Mailing out bumper stickers, delivering mail, getting coffee, a general gopher. No shame in that; we all have to start somewhere.
With stevE, though, he has to be bigger and better and cooler and more connected. Hoffman doesn't work for FREE, pal. He gets paid. He runs everything. He met everyone. He did it all. Just a shame the woman who helped run and program the station doesn't remember who the fuck he is.
COLA, I caught your reference to Rain Man up thread. Maybe it's just a thing with guys whose last name is Hoffman.
"Definitely Jeopardy. Definitely time for Jeopardy. Jeopardy. I was stage...I was stage stage manager and Alex Trebek the host...the host of Jeopardy...he always told me I should be the fill in for him".

I can't. I just can't. What a boring-ass old liar he really is. If I was gonna make up an origin story, my lies would at least sound impressive.

When reading those I pretend it’s in the voice of Abe “Grampa” Simpson and they become mildly amusing.
Funny to see how Steve becomes younger in those yarns as the posts get more current. At first I thought it was because he’s trying to impress his flock by showing how young he was when he achieved all this greatness but now I think it’s his own psychological delusions of his Peter Pan / fountain of youth fantasy.

I have no idea if Hoffy has any siblings or not, and I don't want to offensively paint all "only children" with one brush, but Huffman shows all the traits that I have seen before in certain people I've known in my own life, who suffer from a certain variation of "only child syndrome."
These people actually end up accomplishing some cool things in life and are not without any talent. But since childhood, they make a routine of exaggerating everything about themselves and their lives to make it more interesting to other people, to draw them in. Because of their loneliness at home, maybe? Because of their need for the attention of other kids? These people are in their own worlds, and not aware of how obvious their distortions are to some outsiders. I say some outsiders, because these people are often surrounded by others who are totally swayed and convinced by the "aura" that the only child's exaggerations create. So it becomes a feedback loop, for others who are so desperate to have a "cool and interesting" friend that they will swallow up and regurgitate any kind of horse shit that the "very special person" pukes out. This is the essence of the SH forum, at least years ago (at this point, I think there are a great many people using the site without much if any idea who runs it.) The sycophants want to feed the ego of the "special person", because then some of that specialness trickles down to them, in their minds. Crumbs of glory.
Meanwhile, there's always another opposite contingent, that hears the special person tell just one story and immediately thinks, "who the hell does this guy think he's fooling? I'd better stay away from this loser."
Classic behavior of this kind is how Hoofy extends the legendary aspect of his work in "the biz" to include every aspect of his childhood. It's all kind of told as if it's all part of an epic, whether it is shooting the shit about Citizen Kane with Orson Welles, or hitchhiking to Fargo with a friend as a teenager or whatever. One story (even if bullshit) is interesting, the other is really not. But Hoofman tells every story as if it's legendary, as if every moment of his life is somehow part and parcel of this magic journey. I can understand that - people want to look upon their lives as interesting and meaningful. But it's the sort of tone-deafness and selfishness, that goes along with someone who is so relentlessly driven to make a myth of their own life, that is hard to take.
And meanwhile, as has been said, the actual guy and his life, are not interesting. He seems like a nerdy awkward dude whose probably been sitting around watching old movies in his underwear for the last twenty years, googling pencils and YouTubing rare mono mixes from the 50's. This is another reason why every little tale from his earlier years becomes exaggerated to the point of implausibility. The forum is only interesting to him as much as it feeds his ego, and I bet that it has lost power to him over time. The need of someone like Hoff to brag (using just the right touches of self-deprecation and false modesty) is so loud, metaphorically, that he can't hear anyone else. If any SHite loser tried to interest STeve in their own trivial anecdote of hitchhiking to Fargo, he's got no interest, because it's not about him. It's only other people who are in the business are of interest to him, because their own "legendary" tales, and Steve's connection to them, just adds to his own personal mythology.
And to bring my rant back on topic, I have met other "former radio guys", and a number of them are just like this, just like Steve. There is something about having been on radio, even for just one semester at some nowhere college at 3am, that these guys feel is worth raving about for the rest of their lives.
