You're probably onto something. The most of the other Beatle sons were able to make it work though.

You're probably onto something. The most of the other Beatle sons were able to make it work though. Being Ringo’s son is pretty low key. Julian shot his load and went poof. Sean is weird enough that no one cares. James has the perfect storm of being Paul’s son, a shitty musician and having the personality of a paper lunch bag.

Sean is a good musician too. Definitely weird though. I've seen him perform a good handful of times, with his band GOASTT opening for Beck, as the bandleader for Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band (and one time as a guest at a POB show) and randomly coming out during a Wilco show with Beck and Cibo Mato to do a couple of Beatles covers.
His cover of Syd Barrett's Long Gone is worth checking out.

C'mon. After all, the guy inherited 'is Mum's musical talent.

I saw Sean Lennon a bunch of times in the 90s, playing bass with Cibo Matto, playing guitar when Yoko toured the Rising album. He was really good in both those roles but the few times I checked out any of his own music it sounded like Negative Tendencies

That look is very popular these days in the Seattle area. Amongst junkies.

Who is his companion to his left, got the same setup: Plastic bag and puff jacket?
Seriously, when a guy is very close to his mother and not his father and she dies first. It really fucks the son up. Same with a girl and her father. It's the Oedipus thing.
Parents are too birth you, and thats about it.

After seeing the video linked to above, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for ol’ James.
It must be a fucking rough to have Sir Thumbs Aloft for your father.

I never said he wasn’t. I’ve listened to a ton of his stuff. He’s great. But he’s so off the beaten track no one is looking to him to try and make anything that resembles his dad’s stuff. The covers EP he did with Claypool is excellent as are the two albums they did together.

After seeing that awful "thumbs up" Paul video I absolve James of all wrongs. That poor rich kid.

I'm beginning to understand James's plight. My father played in bands all of his life and was a bit of a local celebrity. He turned up unannounced at one of my first teenage gigs and basically "did a Paul" on us. The last thing we fucking wanted was him joining us for an encore, but it happened.
It's obviously a million times worse when your father is the irritating one from The Beatles and richer than God. No wonder James lost himself in some of the finest grade shit Daddy's men could procure. It was probably the only thing in his life worth waking up for.

That James-and-Dad cringe is on the host and producers, undermining their guest right before his number. “We can’t imagine anyone cares about your song, so we got your dad on video”. They were right, of course, but why bother with the whole appearance?

Fuck me, I never paid any attention to him but I just watched some videos on YouTube (or Th'Tube if you're ergonomic) and thought it wasn't that bad. The worst thing I can say is that it sounds like a generic Britpop band in 1996, and it's from 2012. He's got negative stage presence, though.
