Someone started a thread yesterday with Fremmer's top 100 remasters. Mobile Fidelity had a ton of places on the list, Audio Fidelity had one. Must have irked Steve as the thread was sent in to the cornfield. Lemon Curry wrote:Buddy Holly, heh. This seems to be one of the most liked posts in that entire thread. I wonder what Grandma Hoofman thinks of them. linkLemon Curry: Myke: morinix: Lemon Curry:

Elvis Costello's My Aim is True is not what I'd have thought of as an audiophile recording, but then again I only have the original pressing. I have a hard time keeping it straight when audiophiles say the original is worth ten times the repress because it sounds better and when the repress is ten times better than the original. My guess is Fremer doesn't have an original My Aim is True, so the MoFi one he has is the best. Either way, I have better sounding records than that one and they aren't anywhere near Fremer's list.

It's about dipshits trying to find something to make them excited about listening to something they've literally already heard 10,000 times.
As long as there is no major fuckup somewhere, pretty much every version of any particular album sounds pretty much identical. It shouldn't be about finding the one that sounds best, it should be about avoiding the one with some weird mastering flaw that makes it sound shitty.

So, to stay clear of Audio Fidelity releases, basically?

So, to stay clear of Audio Fidelity releases, basically? That pretty much worked for me. But not necessarily for the reasons mentioned here. I refused to support Audio Fidelity in a strictly financial sense, regardless if the release appealed to me or not. All the obfuscation, lies, bullshit and general fuck-ups precluded me from dropping one cent into Marsha's little P.O. box company. Of course, I didn't really know that at the time but it was very quickly (and quite early on) clear to me that Audio Futility was distinctly a fly-by-night operation. I remember PM'ing with another member about how much I enjoyed playing the stock, plain-vanilla Cee Dee of a title that AF had released, in the distinct knowledge that AF didn't get one dime from me. Fucking principles.

What in the everloving fuck is Hoofy on about there? "Is all open strings in standard tuning an Em"? Uh, no? Somebody confiscate this asshole's guitars and give them to the needy. Or at least someone with two brain cells to rub together.

The reason Hoofman's instruments are all minty, is because he doesn't know fuck-all about playing them. Heh.

But he's a master of the Buddy Holly Downstroke (trademark pending). Maybe if you buy him lunch he'll show you exactly how it's done.

Who the fuck name-drops a goddamn watch? (BTW, STeVE, your Mom Jeans tend to offset whatever panache the accessories you deck out yourself in might have...)
