Morrisons is dreadfully tacky supermarket chain, or at least it was when I last had the displeasure of visiting our local branch several years ago. The late owner of the chain, Ken Morrison, used to live a few miles away - whenever his wife came into town to go shopping she'd visit the local branch of Sainsbury's instead!
Incidentally our branch of Sainsbury's usually carries a stock of current CD releases - for some reason this Friday's delivery still hasn't arrived as of 30 minutes ago, so no McCartney III here, or any of the other lately released Christmas cash-ins that little the release schedule at this time of year.

Now that the 70 versions of the album are starting to arrive which one do we play first??? After having this album with me for a few days, I've found myself listening to it quite a bit, in the rotation with my Christmas CDs and the 2 latest Taylor Swift albums. I've even been playing it in the car while stopping here and there to get things from the store! The only thing I think I'd want is a shorter cut of "Deep Deep Feeling", as it's not really a song that would lend itself to being that long. But that's a minor point for me. Apart from that, I really like this album! Received my Barnes & Noble blue copy over the weekend and the red Third Man edition is on its way. That leaves the white independent store version and I'll have the ones I ordered online. I've left the Target edition for my wife or daughter to get me, vinyl or CD. That will be the first one I open and play from a physical media standpoint, as that's the one that matters most to me, given it's from them. I have Barnes orders in too, but haven't seen anything from them either. But it's all good because I never planned to open my blue. I was going to open my "dice white" one, but later preferred the lime green one to spin. Good thing the blue didn't show up before I got the green. It would be saying, "Play me! Play me!". I'd probably have "weakened". I’m in the same camp! I'm probably going to open the blue or white one first to play, but any physical copies of this album are in lockdown until after Christmas. The first one I always play is the one from my wife or daughter. I've done this for the 50th Anniversary versions of Pepper, White Album and Abbey Road as well. I don't mind as long as I can stream it to hear it on release day, but for me there is something different about opening that LP or CD, taking it out and being the first one to enjoy the music on there It sounds like you are as nostalgic as I am about all of this. I always try to play an lp on release day, and end up forming a "bond" with the actual first physical record that I open and play. Whenever I look back to this or take the album out to play, rich memories of that first experience all come back to me, no matter how many years have passed. Crazy I know. But it's how I'm "weird" or "wired". Probably a bit of both. I'm exactly the same! That first copy I open, put on and play is the one that carries the memories with me. It's the one someone gave me, or the one I bought on release day at the store. When I got Memory Almost Full, the thoughts of going to Starbucks on the way to work that morning, stopping to get coffee and a scone there, hearing the album playing there for their listening party. Then the girl behind the counter saying that I was someone who knew good music when I bought it, her saying that I wouldn't need a bag or anything for it, since I'm probably opening it in the car right away! The Beatles' 50th Anniversary editions, I remember opening them on Christmas morning, my wife or daughter looking as I open it, them knowing that was the major present I'd want, and them knowing how much I'll treasure that. Yes! These memories and connections never go away. My Back To the Egg Tower Records release day lp purchase and play is as vivid as the night I bought it. It's like it happened yesterday, pulling 3 copies off a tall floor stack, back when they'd do this. The one I opened that night is the only one I play - no matter what better remaster or version might come my way. (Thanks for sharing your "Starbucks story" my friend!) It's posts like yours that keep me hanging around here a bit longer. The info on the releases is great. But for me, the common connections we make and share with fellow collectors is what matters the most to me.
