Grohl has always supported diverse stuff, like the DC Go-go scene.

Cobain was a huge fan of Public Enemy and Ice Cube. And Lead Belly.

Drummer in up-and-coming band listened to great drummers for inspiration. Shocking.
Do these "music fans" not even like Chic, Cameo, and The Gap Band?

There was — and is — a racist underbelly in hard rock fandom, and a lot of these racists assume their favorite artists are as shitty and hateful as they are, which prompted Kurt to write in the liner notes to Incesticide, “If any of you, in any way, hate homosexuals, people of a different color or women, please do this one favor for us — leave us the fuck alone. Don’t come to our shows and don’t buy our records.”

And while we’re quoting former members of Nirvana, Dave Grohl has a quote I really like, and it’s tangentially related to this topic: “I don’t believe in guilty pleasures. If you fucking like something, like it. That’s what’s wrong with our generation: that residual punk rock guilt, like, 'You’re not supposed to like that. That’s not fucking cool.' Don’t fucking think it’s not cool to like Britney Spears’ 'Toxic.' It is cool to like Britney Spears’ 'Toxic'! Why the fuck not? Fuck you! That’s who I am, goddamn it! That whole guilty pleasure thing is full of fucking shit.”

Well, I know that the set that thinks Nirvana and that era of music killed off RAWK. It's generally the fans of 80s butt rock that make comments like "anything that wasn't personally sanctioned and okayed by Kurt Cobain was considered passé". There is still a lot of bitterness that Cinderella and Warrant weren't still tearing up the charts in 1993. Even if you don't like the music now, you still have to give it to Grohl for his enthusiasm about all kinds of music, at an age where most rock stars are jaded, miserable old bastards.
See: Clapton, Eric & Morrison, Van, et al.

And that goes for anything in life, not just music.

You guys keep up the Dave Grohl/Billie Eilish worship and we’re gonna need a new website spoofing Stereocentral.

My childhood spans the 80s and 90s, when hip hop was the absolute dominant form of popular music.
I've always been surprised by the vehemence with which oldsters rejected disco. When I was a really little kid, they mostly talked about Bee Gees. And who can blame anyone for thinking their hits are annoying?
But eventually it becomes clear they hate the beat that runs from "Love Train" to Chic and beyond. Fuck that.

My interest in Dave Grohl begins and ends with the fact that he played drums on Nirvana's greatest records. But what the fuck is wrong with Billie Eilish? The lapse of taste there is on your end, pal. Heh.
