Hoofy has a hard on for this show. Not a film, but Luke Chung will be sending the blu-ray to STeVE. $25 says this is what he watches when he’s making sperm and having to get it out.

No, thank you, STeVE. I wonder, what is Luke's ulterior motive? The guy's facebook feed is creepy AF. Maybe he thinks STeVE will be his connection to giving LeAnn Rimes a pearl necklace.

In all seriousness that is one of the strangest “friendships” I have ever seen. It’s obvious that it’s a friendship of convenience for STeVe. Luke seems like he needs/wants friends and Steev is happy to be his friend as long as he gets his freebies. I don’t recall STeVe ever sharing what he has done for Luke. While it’s their business what they do, since STeVe likes to put his “wonderful” life in the public domain then I have a piece of advice for Luke: open your eyes and realize you’re just being used. Get a real friend who wants you for you, not what you can give them.

Poor ol' STeVE. That lousy, no good Luke gave him a measly region A blu-ray player, now STeVE can't watch his region B silent movie. What's a grifter to do?

There are just a few more sequences in Brownlow's final take on Napoléon, and the added length is mostly due to the footage playing at the right speed. Silent movie cameras were operated manually, through a crank, with the operator shooting approximately between 16 and 20 fps, depending on their excitement (with another technician turning a crank for projection, respecting the original pace). It's only with talkies that 24 fps became the norm. The more historically accurate speed is part of the reason for which Brownlow wanted to use a new score, while Francis Ford Coppola insisted on keeping the one by his father and 24 fps. He blocked any screenings of the updated versions for decades, because he's a dick. Ultimately, they found some compromise, hence the UK-only release of the Brownlow restoration.
The French Film Library has been working on its own restoration since 2008, supported by Coppola and Netflix, with a major advantage, which is that they have the original notebooks by Gance detailing the scenes to use for the two versions. Abel Gance had actually put together two versions in parallel, using different takes, for the premiere (the regular one and a shorter one designed for large screens), a detail that was then lost to time. So, most attempts to rebuild the film would use footage from both versions indistinctly. The new one recreates the longer version.
It's still an extremely exhausting film to watch, rather than the "greatest movie in cinema history", but it's an opportunity for Steve to brag about something few Americans have been able to watch. The greatest film is still Jeanne Dielman, 23 Commerce Quay, 1080 Brussels, as everyone knows.

I'm content to wait for Vidiot's colorized version.

Young and Innocent (which was in the style of his 39 Steps/Saboteur/North by Northwest journeys by a framed innocent to find the real killer) is quite noticeable for the fact that the real killer can't be identified as he plays in a jazz ensemble on tour, and thus, in all public appearances… Also, the film is on The Criterion Channel at the moment.
