And these are the people calling liberals snowflakes. Fucking hilarious. The fact that they disparage anyone as 'liberals' should be a moral and political cut-off point. Liberals, are we? Fuck you, you vermin. Anyone who voted for Trump deserves to die of leukaemia.
Agreed on all points.

This stereoguy is a real gem. How come guys like this can never just admit that they're not bothered by what's said but who it's said about? Just say 'I'm a Trumptard and I get extremely asshurt when people talk about what a scumbag he is.' My phone kept trying to autocorrect “stereoguy” to “stereotype.” I should have let it.

I think Colbert is great. Very talented and educated being. To be honest, I like most of the talk show guys, I think they have come a long way with their ability to adapt their talents. Fallon, Corden, Kimmel, are all entertaining for me. Well, if you like them, that is great. Personally, I think that none of them even comes close to the sheer talent level of Carson, Letterman, or Leno. I agree that joke crossed a line, but I don't think it's representative of Colbert's work as a whole. And to some degree it's representative of the times we live in, in which civility in politics has become a thing of the past. I find it ironic that people are concerned about mean spiritedness from comedians, given the incivility, rudeness, and sometimes downright vulgarity of comments that are being made by some political leaders. So it's because his monologue subject matter you don't agree with, and therefore you don't like Colbert. I think his agenda is Quite Clear. Understandable. If he was constantly tearing apart a situation I was in favor of, I'd be inclined to not watch him as well. Like certain news organizations. Thanks Otlset: That was precisely my point. Thats how Colbert gets his yucks. I watched Carson for 25 years; almost every night. The difference? Carson had Class. Carson never went ANYWHERE near this far . Quote Colbert: "The only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s c—k holster.” Thats a perfect example of Colberts cheap shot style. He disgusts me. You like him? Fine....you can have him! Sure, Carson took some mildly cheap shots at certain people, but he knew where the line was. Colbert thinks the line doesnt apply to him. And Carson never went anywhere near as far as Colbert does. See my post #882 His subject matter is much more vulgar and absurd than anything Carson had to work with in his era. Actually, it isnt. The Exact Same subject matter was there in 1962-1993. Carsons writers knew how far to push it because Carson TOLD them how far they could push it. You see, Carson had some class. Even when he talked about his arrest for driving drunk, he did it with class. When guests showed up drunk off their faces, Johnny saved them with empathy. He'd ask them easy questions that they could handle drunk. He had some class. When Regan was running, the outrage from the left was just as bad as what you see today. The difference was that THEN, the press reported things fairly, and on both sides. Journalists were just that, and not propaganda artists. Although the internet has given voice to more extreme (and LOUD) opinions across the board, in Presidential politics, things were (relatively) civil until the last election. In both the Republican primary and the general election, there was one specific candidate who drove us down that road. All other candidates were relatively polite and dignified, unless having to defend themselves from the one candidate. I think this is an anomaly, and things will go back to relative civility between the candidates, after the current cycle is over. I don't think this is a political post that needs to be deleted, either. It's simply stating an observation about how we arrived where we are culturally. As I said upthread, I do not think that's a representative example of Colbert's humor. It's an exception, and I do think he crossed the line that one time. But I'm not aware of any other jokes he's told of that nature. The subject matter is not the same, because in Carson's time there were no elected officials who publicly insulted opponents, media members, and private citizens, often in crude and vulgar terms, as there are now. As I said before, it puzzles me that people are offended by mean-spiritedness from entertainers, when they are merely mirroring the behavior displayed by some political leaders. Who should be held to a higher standard of behavior... elected officials or late-night comedians? Exactly. If Nixon or Carter,Reagan,etc... mocked the handicapped and POW's and said Nazi's were very fine people I'm sure it would be fertile ground for late night comedy nomatter what the era was. The key difference is that almost all of the Nixon comments cited there were made in private conversations, not intended to be on the record or heard by the general public. Whereas now we have politicians who publicly say such things, either in speeches, interviews, or via social media. Besides Nixons quotes, you seem to conveniently fail to mention the Democrat politicians who screamed viscous attacks about Ronald Regan in 1967 when he ran for Governor of California, because he was an actor, and a staunch republican, and he couldnt POSSIBLY be an effective Governor, and what right did an actor have running for that office. Questioning someone's qualifications for office is far different than personally insulting their appearance, calling them names, and/or making vulgar comments in the manner that happens today. I obviously can't give you examples because it will get this thread shut down, but if you can't see a difference in the tenor of the insults and attacks being tossed around by politicians today compared to the past, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. The trouble is, this has ALL happened before. You just dont seem to know your history on the subject: www.usnews.com/news/article...rys-most-brutal-presidential-campaign-attacksThere are Hundreds more like this. Many politicians in Public have insulted their opponents appearance, their wives, their mode of dress, sometimes a physical handicap , and have even exposed extra marital affairs . You think the current situation is anything new? It aint. And you need to learn the difference between on and off the record, and public and private statements. Certainly, those kind of comments have always gone on in private. The fact that they are now intentionally inserted into public discourse (in speeches, social media postings, et al) is what is different. The human capacity to be outraged by optional entertainment will never cease to amaze me. There were PLENTY that were done in interviews, and part of the public record. Your argument that its only ever happened in private simply isnt true. Look up Regan running for Gov of CA in 1967. It was viscous. Here in NY, Mayor Lindsay was called names in public by other politicians that would make a construction worker blush. Stereoptic Said: "Please desist with the political comments. Thanks", and has now haphazardly gorted into oblivion all of the above posts while leaving all of the prior ones, despite Aggie87's disclaimer.

I'm not the biggest Colbert fan, so I almost want to agree with them here and there. Mainly, I can't stand his interviews with guests. It was funny when he was doing the Colbert Report and he was doing a character, but now it's just annoying. Beyond that however, he doesn't bother me, and the fact that he gets under their skin makes me hope he's on late night for many years to come.

I'm not a big fan of Colbert's new stuff either. I much prefer John Oliver and Jim Jefferies.
But Colbert is on point. Funny or not, he tells the truth about Trump and the fucktards supporting him. And their tears are sooo tasty.

Maybe these dummies actually believed in his character, and are pissed to see him as he really is. You know, they aren't the brightest, this lot.

Yep. I'm sure a lot of these rocket-surgeons are thinking "bu-bu-but I thought he was on our side", and now they feel betrayed because they're too fucking inbred to understand sarcasm and parody.
Oh man, I love the salty taste of conservatard tears...

Wait until they find out that Trump and his goons aren't really on their side either. Trump could shit on Reagan’s grave and wipe his ass on an American flag and they’d still love him. They only think he’s on their side because he’s “pwning libtards.”

Wait until they find out that Trump and his goons aren't really on their side either. Just like Lindsey Buckingham probably doesn't give two shits that they care about whether he's in or out of Fleetwood Mac! Or maybe that should be just Lindsey. They love to refer to these people by just their first names as if they know them personally.
