He really was very kind to me even though I was powerless to help him with his legal troubles. As if Pete Shelley was begging Steve Fucking Hoffman for legal advice and assistance. Jesus, this narcissistic prick never ceases to amaze me. Pete: how do I avoid legal troubles STeVE: well, here's a list of things I've done that I would recommend avoiding...

As gary191265 said in the other topic, Steve definitely recycles stuff from Shelley's Wikipedia entry, maybe repurposing a vague story where he met some English musician in the early eighties.
The telltale sign is that Steve starts by complaining that nobody (i.e. himself) knows who he is, at least outside of the legacy of his band, then tells a few specific stories he was supposedly a part of about Shelley's solo career.

I love how Hoofy keeps trying to deflect criticism, while injecting himself into the conversation at the same time.
Hey SHites! This is your fucking hero! (And you wonder why Stereo Central exists to make fun of you assholes? You're all pinheads for idolizing that creep!)

I'd like to hear more about Steve's Manchester adventures in the early 80s. Being there on the opening night of the Hacienda, helping New Order to record Blue Monday, carrying Marc Riley's amp, that sort of thing.

He's a pathological liar. Imagine this scenario playing out in person. He wanders into the funeral parlor, asking who the hell the dead guy is to some folks in the back. By time he makes his way up front, he's gathered enough info that he gets up to give a eulogy.

That making fun of Ray Charles for being blind that was shared earlier I thought was bad enough, but this is a new low - even for Steve. “I have the records, I’ll photograph then one day.” Sure you will, Steve.
Hey STeVE, by the way, how is it that someone like you who has only “cleaned up” other people’s work and never created anything original of your own seem to always meet and know so many people? I mean, you don’t know who someone is but yet you helped him when he was down. You’re a lying sack of shit, fuck you.

It gets my goat every time I buy something Pixies-related that has Cecilia Ann on it, because I know some of my money will end up in Hoofy's pocket as a result. With one other exception (the LP of Morph The Cat by Donald Fagen, which I do like), I've got a Hoffman-free record collection, but I like Pixies (even the new stuff) too much to expunge him entirely.

Even Hoffman's one legitimate attempt at creativity was stolen. Not from "Frosty" Horton (although Hoffman once said that Horton did all of the heavy lifting.) It was cribbed from Erik Satie. I bet his estate doesn't get a bean.

Has any genius chimed in with "Drugs are bad, m'kay?" and "Don't do drugs, kids!" for no reason? I think there are maybe 5 people on that entire forum that aren't instant vomit at this point.

Steve used to shoot vicodin with John Cooper Clarke and Nico, in Manchester circa 1981
