Wasn't the Captain actually a Rear Admiral, and hid it from her for years? Jerry c. sounds like a swell guy.

TeacFan: "Has anyone informed Neil?"
Jeez, good point. Maybe you'd better get right on that, in case he's not an avid follower of STEVE's forums!

^^^ I read that one as a "joke" though it was missing the Daryl Hannah reference or the Arnold Grove winking emoji that would have spelled it out.

The less time I spend over there, the harder it is to figure out who's in earnest and who's trolling.

This is fucking gold. ShiTE suggests "feature" of adding "In Memoriam" to be automatically added to avatars after 90 days of inactivity on forum. It can't POSSIBLY be a thing that someone just decides to quit posting there, THEY MUST HAVE DIED!
"How hard would it be for a forum such as this to create an auto-self-obit post for members who have a high degree of consistent activity (such as 500+ posts)? Once created and stored in an otherwise inaccessible area of the profile, the post would lob into an In Memorium thread should there be inactivity (posting OR viewing) for a period of time (such as 90 days)."

So I've been dead for almost 9 years?

I'm okay with the auto-self-obit. But how do we lob into an In Memorium for Hoofbag's dead career?

I was once part of a forum where confirmed deaths were given a birth/death date under their names (they also appeared on the main forum page whenever they had started a thread.) I told them it was a dumb idea when they started it, but they told me not to be so insensitive. Within 6 years, about ten regs had died, and the place literally looked like a graveyard (turns out the people there were more elderly than I thought...) It certainly was not a welcoming site for any new person contemplating joining. By year 7, the place really was dead; the regs had gone to the great beyond or drifted away when their friends died, and nobody wanted to join. I think it all started with that one bad idea. So, I think SHF ought to go for it.
