The best joke on that album has got to be the title. Audiophile hucksters are known for their thick skins and senses of humor. I hope he gave a minty copy to that kid he's grooming.

I tried the Peter Fonda workout plan. I dropped acid and borrowed money from my sister.

Rot in hell Peter Fonda, ya damn smoker. Has any Beatard quipped, "Now he knows what it's like to be dead" yet? Arnold Grove maybe? Peter Fonda actually had a recording career, kinda, so his passing is apropos to a music forum, if not an audiophile forum. It consisted of precisely two singles (one released twice under two different billings) November Night/Catch the Wind (Chisa Records, 1967) "November Night" is a Gram Parsons song, pre-International Submarine Band, and it may very well be the first Gram Parsons original composition ever released. It's kind of a lilting folk pop arrangement with mariachi-ish horns probably played by Hugh Masekela (who had 'discovered' Fonda as a musician). David Crosby and Roger McGuinn might or might not be on it too. Fonda clearly does not have much of a voice or presence, but the recording does kind of capture a time and a place. Fonda plays guitar on both tracks. The sound quality of "Catch the Wind" is so bad, I'm not sure if the fuzzy vocal is a worn record or vocal effect or both. Same folk style arrangement as the A-side, same musicians, with the same horns. Fonda had recorded 16 songs in late 1966, an uncertain number of which were with buddies McGuinn, Crosby, and Masakela. Only these two were ever released, and nobody is sure if they are from the 16-song sessions or re-recordings. Fonda says he himself chose not to release the album at the time, admitting it "wasn't there" And that's all she wrote for the 60's career of Peter Fonda, musician. The A-side is on the compilation Where The Action Is: Los Angeles Nuggets 1965-1968, which focuses on L.A. record labels of the era. He did have another single in 1977, "Outlaw Blues/I Dream of Highways" on Capitol Records, co-credited with Susan Saint James, "Outlaw Blues", the title song from a film in which they starred (for Warner Brothers). This time, it's standard country-rock, noteworthy only for being a John Oates composition (yep, of Hall and Oates). As with his earlier opus, his voice is the weakest link. The single was also released on Capitol attributed to "Bobby Ogden", the name of his character in the movie. Peter may have left us, but his music will live on!

November Nights is also on the second volume of Byrd Parts, a compilation of random songs that members of the band either played on as sessioneers, or wrote. It’s a very sorry collection (even to a Byrds fan like me), and you’d be hard pressed to make one listenable 20-track album, let alone two volumes.
The Fonda track is one of the highlights, along with an overproduced Gene Clark song that was sung by David Hemmings.
