All the Seinfield talent would have to die first.
Too many witnesses right now.

STEVE's big story is that Wally Cox said "hi" to him? Wow. C'mon STEVE, you can do better than that. More deets! What'd you have for lunch that day? What was playing on your mom's car radio on the ride home? Who was your buddy on that historic day, was it John Oteri? Who was the teacher on the field trip, was it good ol' Mrs. Bivins? Enquiring minds want to know.

It's challenging to *remember* shit that never happened. Heh.

A new Stereo Central thread on STeVE meeting Joey Heatherton made me wonder if the tale has ever been told before and if the details change each time STeVE lies “remembers” the event. The answer is YES! STeVE has told the story many times, and in each telling of the anecdote, the time, venue, and people present are all variables – perfect fodder for this thread! Here’s STeVE describing the incident in 2006: “Remembered” by STeVE: October 7, 2006 Venue: Tower Records Timeframe: not listed, but Joey’s gift to STeVE would place it in the early 70s Celebrities involved: Joey HeathertonThanks for joining. My entire classical LP collection back in the day was purchased at Tower. Not only did they have everything but they staff knew every GREAT performance. I always took their advice and was always rewarded with great music. I discovered much of what I know about classics, etc. by hanging out at Tower and yakking with the staff. When I saw a picture of Django on an LP jacket and I asked a clerk what kind of music it was, he said: "Ah, The Quintet Of The Hot Club Of France? Well, it's like early swing with jazz violin and a guitar player hotter than Hendrix". He guided me over to the "Hot Club Of France" section and there were like 50, I repeat 50 import LP's there. Most on Pathe Marconi. I bought a few and then drove all the way back and bought 5 more which I still have. Just an amazing place for a novice music lover. Oh, and Joey Heatherton once bumped into me there (when she was young and hot) and asked me if I knew where "The Three Bells" by the Browns might be. I asked her what kind of music it was and she said she didn't know. So, I walked around with her until I found the Browns LP. She was so delighted she offered to buy me an LP as well. Since I was young and broke, I accepted. I still have it; STICKY FINGERS.
Last memory and then I will shut up: I can vividly see in my mind's eye a stack of over 100 (yes 100 copies) of the import Beatles LET IT BE with the book inside for the same price as the regular LET IT BE, Yikes, if I had a time machine. Right next to 50 "import" copies of the Hey Jude LP and Die Beatles, etc. Sigh, what a store.. But, by 2010, the venue has changed and Joey has a friend along for the ride: “Remembered” by STeVE: August 14, 2010 Venue: Vogue Music Timeframe: not listed Celebrities involved: Joey Heatherton and Stevie NicksStevie Nicks and Joey Heatherton thumbing through records together at Vogue Music in Westwood looking for records by The Browns (true!) I pointed them to the right section like I worked there. They wanted to hear "The Three Bells" for some reason. In the 2015 retelling, Joey is alone again (but STeVE is with a pal), and the action is back at Tower. “Remembered” by STeVE: August 10, 2015 Venue: Tower Records Timeframe: Late 70s Celebrities involved: Joey HeathertonI love Joey. In the late 1970's I was standing with my friend in Tower Records, Sunset Strip and I saw her walk in the door, alone. She tried to get someone to help her, anyone, but it was too busy, too crowded. I went over to her, asked her if I could help. She looked me over and said "I know you're too young to work here but your hair tells me that you know where everything is. Am I right?" I told her that I knew where everything was many times over and what was she looking for? She needed to desperately find "THE THREE BELLS" by the Browns. I led her (wanted to lead her by the hand but was too shy) over to the Country & Western section and found her the "Best Of The Browns" LP on RCA-Victor. When I handed it to her she sort of squealed and kissed me on the forehead, pranced off to buy it. She was wearing black dancing tights and I watched her go all the way to the counter and out the door. No one else even blinked, the sillies. That's my one and only JOEY story.. Of course, people were pretty jaded at that Tower. I saw Stevie Nicks in there and no one blinked either. I saw the ENTIRE band BADFINGER in there as well and I was the only one who made any kind of fuss... And in 2017, the alleged incident is still at Tower, but this time in the early 1970s: “Remembered” by STeVE: May 24, 2017 Venue: Tower Records Timeframe: Early 70s Celebrities involved: Joey HeathertonI met Jim and Helen in 1976 at KLAC Radio where I worked after school. I had no idea who he was but my jock (Jay Lawrence) clued me that he was in "The Browns." And I knew who they were from Joey Heatherton coming up to me at Tower Sunset once in the early 1970s to ask me where to find "The Three Bells" by The Browns. I found it for her (even though I didn't work there) and she gave me a kiss. She really needed that song for some reason. At any rate, at least I knew who he was thanks to that, otherwise I would have had no clue. He was very nice and instantly learned all of our names. When he came through the next year he remembered my name. I was impressed. He will be missed. I love how STeVE’s “only” JOEY story has changes each time tells it. Did the meeting take place at Tower Records or Vogue Music? Was Joey Heatherton by herself or with Stevie Nicks? Did STeVE get a kiss or a copy of Sticky Fingers? Was it in the early or late 70s? Did STeVE go up to Joey himself, or did she approach him first? In STeVE’s world, ALL of these are correct...

Maybe thinking about that kiss gave STeVE sticky fingers later.

I don’t think he’s meaning this literally. Don’t most people say I bumped into so and so rather than making it sound like he was doing her the favor here?

Well, it was a great honor for Joey, bumping into the man who was the government's and the media's intermediary for and negotiator with the SLA. She was also quite impressed with Steve's Bulova watch. Too bad he didn’t have a Leica with him to document the momentous occasion.

In a different thread, someone brought up STeVE going on about The Wizard of Oz. STeVE bragging about owning a film copy of the movie is something he’s done a number of times. Let’s see how his story has changed through the years: Dec. 12, 2006: Sure looked good. They had the (rare) common sense on TNT to preserve the correct aspect ratio of the movie although I am sure they were itching to spread it all the way across the way they like to do. Urggh. At any rate, it looked fab! We have an IB Technicolor 35mm print of the movie and trust me, this broadcast looked right up there. Hope some of you caught it.. So, it looks like STeVE still had his print in 2006. Let’s jump ahead to 2011: Sep. 28, 2011: The Red Shoes restoration. It kept a lot of the glow of the original Technicolor show print. Please keep in mind that Technicolor itself (the Tech "standard") was ever changing. In a 1939 release print of OZ you are going to see more of a yellow tinge. In the 1955 final theatrical reissue before CBS print it's more blue. My 1949 print still had the look of 1930's Technicolor.Lovely film, The Wizard Of Oz. You realize it was a box office flop when it was issued in 1939, right? Victor Fleming was a very good and underrated director. When he left the set to take over GWTW, Mervin LeRoy directed some of the best scenes (retakes) and King Vidor did the sepia stuff. As mentioned in an earlier thread, I had the honor in school to meet many cast members and crew members who actually worked on the movie. Now, sadly, all gone. Uh, oh... “ Had the look”...? Was STeVE forced to sell his beloved 1949 print of TWOO sometime between 2006 and 2011? Let’s jump ahead a few more years: Nov. 29, 2015: I used to own a British Technicolor print of THE WIZARD OF OZ, struck in 1955. No digital version will do anything for me. Spoiled. Even though I don't have the print anymore, I'm ruined. What? STeVE’s 1949 print became a 1955 (British) print? Magical happenings like this are a regular occurrence in STeVE’s life. I’m just thrilled he has made it his mission to share with us the details of his fantastical existence. (I’m sure Daddy has brought up owning an original print of TWOO more than just the three times listed here. Please poat other examples if you can.)

STeVE's personal print of the movie leaves out the scene where the big-talking, charismatic, supposedly all-powerful authority is comically revealed to be a whiny, pathetic liar.
