Given Ono hypnotic power over him its no surprise that JL quality of material was so bad. Lets face it, she has absolutely no musical talent and she dragged him down. I would never say he was dragged down to her level because that would be impossible.

John Lennon song by song album by album thread.Just look at the kids faces in the audience; you can see they’re all thinking: Why is John wearing a stupid plastic helmet & when is Yoko going to stop talking over the song? Maybe I need to start a new thread where we rate, compare, & ultimately fight to the death over the relative beauty of all Beatle wives & significant partners? ;-)
So many ways this could be judged.
For example, I consider Linda to be the least attractive of the first Beatle wives, but if you average out across Jane, Linda, Heather & Nancy, Paul’s not doing too badly.
However, between Patti & Olivia, George is probably winning overall.
Ringo hasn’t done badly for himself - considering he’s an odd looking guy who wasn’t expected to live beyond childhood - as both Barbara & Mo would class as hot wives (George would second this opinion!)
I’m afraid to say it, but Johns coming in a distant last place with Cynthia & Yoko (though May Pang was quite a looker)
What? A mutiny? You want to ban me from my own thread for being an off-topic, Male-chauvinistic, sexist who objectifies Beatles wives & partners?........... Re: Give Peace a Chance. I have asked the better half and she said it was Yoko's influence. I quote: "Give Peas a Chance...it is as sad as that. Not worth anything. -1/5" For this Beatles fan in the UK in 1969, Give Peace a Chance was the first indication that one of the great songwriting Beatles could produce something musically banal. His musical contribution to the B side, Remember Love (nominally written by Yoko) had a great deal more merit. What’s always made me laugh is that whenever Yoko invited other musicians to be involved with a John project - whether it be this or the 1990 tribute concert in Liverpool - she never gets anybody close or relevant to John; it’s always mostly American stars like Cyndi Lauper, Hall & Oates, M C Hammer, Terence Trent D’arby... who are just awful & I’m certain John would have detested them all. Oh well, as awful as this version is, Yoko managed to make a much, much worse version years later as a delayed response to 9/11; the mind boggles at just how bad it is & on so many levels. Back in the U.K, John mixed the live set in one day & had it in the shops within two months (with Yoko’s two ‘songs’ on side b). It includes one song apiece from Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry & Little Richard (all excellent) & the complete Plastic Ono Band set, including Yoko’s grand finale of screaming & behaving like an attention-hungry egotist. Just look at how happy she is to be centre-stage, effectively headlining over the biggest names in rock the first time she steps foot on a musical stage & is handed a microphone. The group accompany her wailings with some uninspired jamming & feedback but John has a strange look on his face as he stares at Yoko in the spotlight centre stage; you can almost see him thinking: “****! She’s not stopping! What have I unleashed upon the world?” as he looks uncomfortable & does an impression of an aeroplane. At one point he says something in her ear (“******’ stop it now!” I imagine) but she doesn’t; leaving John to stand at the back of the stage and light up a cigarette with the others whilst Yoko soaks up her moment. Let's not pretend Yoko's "music" is good. It's not. It's complete and utter garbage. The Yoko stuff, like 100% of her stuff is unbearable. The John stuff is definitely raw and very unrehearsed. 3/5

She obviously has talent in some form, the results having "selective appeal", like prog-era Spinal Tap. But has she ever cracked a joke, especially one at her own expense? Cant recall seeing that. Oh, Yoko is immensely talented... ...at manipulating damaged but powerful men like the cold-hearted psychopath that she is. I’d give her 50/5 for that! I'm concerned by how angry an 87 year old woman makes you. Guessing you might need to see a psychiatrist over it? Guessing you might need to grow a funny bone & stop taking everything so seriously. As somebody who has devoured a ridiculous number of books, articles, interviews, podcasts etc related to John & The Beatles over many years, I’ll say this: There are a hell of a lot of people out there who were part of the Lennons’ inner-circle/social scene, who seem to have very similar experiences of what kind of person Yoko is/was. How many people have to say the same thing about a person before it’s no longer simply slander & can be considered a fair assessment? I don’t want this thread to be derailed by an in-depth discussion of Yoko & John’s relationship, or Yoko as a person, but I find it hard to think of her as somebody with a beating heart when I see the many ways she shunned Julian over the years. After John’s death he was given almost nothing. Anyway, I’m clearly not her biggest fan, but I’ll refrain from further Yoko-bashing as I’d like to keep the focus on Johns music. if it was directed at me, I would have said that it’s not an 87 year old Yoko I am angry with. It is the 40 - 50 year old woman that has disturbed me for 40 years. Oh, trust me, I had a few other responses in mind but I’d like to keep this thread a fairly pleasant place to visit & discuss the music of a John Lennon. ;-) You might prefer the album; I believe Yoko’s unnecessary bleatings during Johns songs were turned down considerably in the mix & the overall sound is better balanced.

Toss in some racism and sexism too. Big strong John was castrated and bewitched by Delilah reborn. Lennon seriously dug Yoko (and her music) and had no patience for this crap.
My sister is reading Catcher In The Rye currently for school. First thing her teacher mentioned when it was assigned was that it inspired Lennon's killer. Unlike when I was in HS, they don't get all their books at the start of the year. Since she's doing school from home, she asked me to find an e-copy. I wound up getting her a Russian edition, replete with footnotes explaining all the slang and pop culture references. All the notes are in Russian though.

I don't agree that Yoko was "established" as an artist when she showed up at Paul's doorstep, and then broke into Johns limo with Cynthia in the vehicle. I also dont consider her an artist overall. Having people cut scraps of clothes off you, or hanging a magnifying glass from a ceiling, to me, doesn't qualify as art. If she wasn't with John nobody would even know who she was today. Thats why she went after him. She may not have been the sole reason of the Beatles downfall, but having her their critiquing the band at times didnt help. She wanted to do her own thing with John. I believe she convinced him to do that through their time spent together, which combined with the other tensions, helped expedite the split. Look at Lennon's interviews during his lost weekend. Very relaxed, and in a good mood. Listen to his interviews with Yoko around, pissed off and insulting most of the time. And I stand by my original statement. There's a reason nobody pays to see her "art". Nor do I hear people referring to as an artist. Who the hell mentions Yoko Ono when having a discussion about art. Give me a break. People that call her work art are caught up in hype, because somebody told them her work is art. Ridiculous junk. How many discussions of art have you been involved in? I've never counted to be honest. If it was 1 or 1,000 it wouldn't matter. I have never heard or read in any art literature the name Yoko Ono as any type of influential artist. And the clip that somebody posted(i re-posted below) doesn't take the ears of Dumbo, the brains of Einstein, or the creativity of Van Gogh to realize that ain't art.

I love that she’s been able to live rent-free in Beatards’ heads for over 50 years.
