I'm almost ready to get banned again over there just to be able to fuck with brainwashed and mikecarrera a little more. I already made mikecarrera throw a tantrum in my new incarnation there. Something about carrera using that "tsk, tsk waggy finger" emoji really pisses me off.
Carrera, Maccawings and Brain are really floundering around after their guesses were wrong and some outsider leaked everything they were spoon-feeding the cretins in that Abbey Road thread. Arnold Grove is at his nadir. Haven't gotten around to foolin' with MyKE or Hoofy yet.

Yea, but that was on one of Paul's songs. And I think he was just fooling around with Paul and the "he was real keen" vibe. You'd think he'd have a clearer memory on one of his own songs, especially a single. But yea, he may have forgotten. He once told Steve that he didn't play the solo on I'm Down... he was probably confusing it with another track from the era (when Paul started playing a few leads). Ron PS We'll know better when we hear take 2, which is complete. Interestingly, Lewisohn doesn't say Paul overdubbed bass... just that bass, lead solo and backing vocals were overdubbed. Then two days later George overdubbed organ (wiping John's rhythm part) and more lead guitar via Leslie.

For what it's worth I tried to play the OBS drums when I had a few minutes to spare before the drummer arrived to my band practice tonight. I am by no means a great or skilled drummer – I can play 4/4 but have a difficult time to "let loose" while still keeping the beat. But I didn't find the OBS shuffle, nor the rapid triplets impossible. It was hard to keep up, but then again I'm no Paul.
Also: listen to the verse shuffle triplet fills and notice how they keep to the hi-hat and snare, never going out on the toms, so it's as easy as possible to get back into the shuffle. The fills are often rushed, starting slightly too late and then speeding to catch up rather than staying on or behind the beat. That, and the mistake after the second stick, smells more like a McCartney struggling to play on the top of his abilities than a Starr not breaking too much sweat to me.
I'm going to try it myself in about 2 hours, before my gig. It's that intro fill that keeps me in the Ringo camp. Ron

"The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity for me. Working 60+ hours a week at my regular job, playing my usual Sunday night gigs with my country band and rehearsing and recording with my new Americana-inspired band. Whew!!! I make Christmas mix tapes every year... well, since 1969 or so. God, I'm old!! Today is my day off and while reading the forum I decided to prepare my first mix tape of 2019 (well USB collection) features all the old favorites: Bing, Frank, Dean, Nat, Andy Williams, etc... but with lesser known and rarely played on the radio tracks. None of the BIG standards, except for a smattering of alternate takes or radio cuts. It's a wonderful listening experience. Songs like Sleigh Ride Serenade, A Winter Romance, A Cradle in Bethlehem, Whatever Happened To Christmas, and dozens more make for a great listening experience.
Tell me if this if song doesn't make you smile and tap your toe a bit." Ron
Fuck off and die at work.

So you're disagreeing with HOWLETT who says Ringo doesn't drum at all on Don't Pass Me By.
I don't think Ringo ever mentioned this and I think only a few dedicated fans raised the possibility. Thanks to slane for refinding his post from six years ago.
Now as for OBS I have a bit of a conspiracy theory. Given that Ringo knew he wasn't on the A-side of the single, wouldn't it be possible that the other Beatles didn't want to provoke an identity crisis by telling Ringo he wasn't on the B-side either?
This would explain why Ringo never mentioned it and the other Beatles certainly didn't.
"I'd say the only reason it was never mentioned (if true and I still don't believe it is) is that Ringo may have quit for a brief period and everyone kept it hush-hush. Look at the timeline. He either missed or was never told about the Monday session for Ballad of John & Yoko. There is some theory that John didn't tell Ringo OR George about the session. There is NO information about George being "out of the country" as oft-mentioned and as I said repeatedly, Ringo was half an hour's drive from Abbey Road while filming. OK, so it was well known, even back in the day, that Ringo and George were "absent" from recording Ballad of John and Yoko. Two days later they are back in the studio to record a b-side. George brings two songs to the table... Old Brown Shoe and Something. Both songs known to the band from a few months earlier during Get Back sessions. The outtake of Old Brown Shoe is very good, take 2 of just four takes, with subsequent overdubs. It almost boggles the mind that Paul could be THAT competent on this song. He apparently had issues with "Ballad" just stopping at the "Think!" line. How likely is it that he could handle Old Brown Shoe? From its powerful intro to the shuffle middle eight. No hiccups, plenty of fills... indeed left to right fills that are in Ringo's style, not Paul's. Now, we have NO idea about the night's second song. We haven't heard a second of that session. It IS possible that Ringo did not attend the evening session. Maybe after working on overdubs for OBS, as mentioned by Lewisohn, they took the opportunity to start a new song... Something. Perhaps more of a rehearsal and Paul stood in for Ringo. In all eight takes were recorded. Ron
PS How likely is it that Paul played drums and piano on George's song? I'd say VERY unlikely." brainwashed, Yesterday at 12:37 PM
Ron, if you're reading this, fuck off.
