And there you have a SHite rolled into one sentence. Throw money you don’t have at a stupid piece of junk.
Has MYKE killed himself yet over this news?

Not yet, but I suspect marriage announcements will be going out soon. 5 1/2 years ago, after being convinced by my son that it was a common sense move to buy a 103, considering the size of my collection, not to mention the high-quality of said discs, I got myself on the "wait list." Since receiving it, it has been in use every day, for several hours per day. Whether watching a DVD, or Blu-ray, or listening to an SACD, or CD, or DVD-A, or one of two USB sticks, it's a part of my daily life. I can only pray it continues to stay as is, as affording a "back up" player is impossible financially, as I'm trying to buy a house for the 103 to move into. Shocked. .

Hang on a minute, a couple months ago MYKE was whinging about the possibility of becoming homeless as he was on the poverty line and now he’s saving for a house?? I guess you can make a tidy sum giving handjobs round the back of the trailer park.

You should see the hundreds of pages of hand-wringing going on at the home theater boards, many of them featuring the odious jh901.
It kills me that fixed-income trailer trash like MYKE would drop $500 of rent money on something that, nice as it is, produces an image indistinguishable from a $100 Sony Blu-ray player. The Sony will play SACD too, like anyone cares.
These people can't seem to understand that Oppo's primary business is selling millions of smartphones in Asia. Home theater sales aren't even significant enough to be considered a drop in the bucket.

Home theater sales aren't even significant enough to be considered a drop in the bucket. These boards all seem to be infested with SHite-type people, as well as actual SHitEs. I was looking at blu-ray.com forum about the 4K version of Kubrick's 2001, and the thread was happy happy joy joy until news broke that Christopher Nolan was involved. Well, you would thought that Nolan had dug up Kubrick's corpse and raped it full of syphilis from the reaction of the blu-shites. So, I thought, I bet they have a cringy thread about Oppo too. Of course, they do. forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=304383I see similar bullshit about vinyl infesting various forums and social media. "Oh, it sounds so much better, or realer, even though it's objectively a giant turd, and I hate it" The SHite's mantra is spreading faster than Flat Earth mania, and it's just as painful. For what it's worth, my el cheapo Pioneer blu-ray player handles SACDs, and when the time comes I'll buy the Sony 4K player that costs half of what that Oppo costs and does exactly the same thing.

More shaking and crying is soon to follow when it is official that Audio Futility has gone the way of the OPPO player.

Oppo made fine players, with two things that were hard to find among the competition:
- dog-fooding: the engineers obviously used their own products. Rather than taking a generic firmware and adding two or three JPEGs to make it look as their own brand, they would implement useful features like storing into memory the last position of reading for the latest five discs (provided these were not BD-J Blu-rays), allow people to change picture settings on the fly, without having to press Stop, or moving subtitles, which is very convenient for people with a VP and an anamorphic lens. This was the kind of stuff you tended to expect from Pioneer, when they were truly in the business.
- regions: all their players could be made region-free, even for Blu-ray, with an easy to add mod chip. It's given me access to the whole Criterion catalog.
Otherwise, I take it as a sign that this is a dwindling market, that doesn't justify any more investment. Audio Fidelity shutting down operations also proves that, for the dozen of thousands of members claimed at SH.tv, not even 2,000 must be subscribers or regular buyers of their products, or whatever the number is to make the company break even. Hey, the actual number must be even lower, as there were idiots who would buy in advance two copies, to keep one sealed, just in case.

Once I had an Oppo, made it play, region free every night. Once I had an Oppo, now it's gone. Brother, can you spare a shite?
