Stupid fucking kids can't read analog clocks

Many kids today can't read analog clocks anymore (and I don't think that's a big deal).
While I understand we have digital clocks these days why not learn how to read an old clock just in case you find yourself somewhere and that's the only option available? Can it hurt to learn? Isn't knowledge power? And if they don't know how, why? Has elementary schools decided to skip this part of the curriculum? It's not that hard to learn. It's laziness on the part of both the student and the educator not to learn such a simple thing.
Teachers filling the heads of the children with important things like how many different gender types and sexual orientations there are ? How to make everything about yourself and YOURSELF alone ? How to cry "bullying" everytime someone looks at you wrong ?
What happens in future generations when no one can read a damn clock...or play the drums?

I keep hearing people say "Don't they teach them how to read an analog clock in schools anymore?" and my thought is "No, probably not because this is not 1952 and digital technology has made them nearly functionally obsolete for today's generation".audiomixer said:
I think it is a big deal, personally. The Zodiac said:
This is true. My wife teaches high school students and she has been surprised for years now how many of her students cannot read the clock. She tries to teach them, even though she's really teaching Spanish. While I understand we have digital clocks these days why not learn how to read an old clock just in case you find yourself somewhere and that's the only option available? Because there are endlessly more important things to spend time teaching kids and there's only so much time in the school day to cover things. Should teachers teach kids how to tie their shoes, too?audiomixer said:
They might have to with the seemingly dumbing down of our society.PaulKTF said:
They don't need the watches to tell time in 2018 when they have a phone in their pocket.audiomixer said:
Not everyone carries a phone.PaulKTF said:
I bet kids today know a lot more about technology than your generation does. How "dumb" are they, really?audiomixer said:
Technology isn't the only thing to learn about in life, don't you agree?PaulKTF said:
Yeah, but it's more important and prevalent than it ever has been.audiomixer said:
More important than math, history, geography, science, etc., etc., etc.?PaulKTF said:
No, but kids are still learning all of those things in school today (often using technology to do so) so what's the problem?audiomixer said:
Are they?PaulKTF said:
Yup. Who told you they weren't?audiomixer said:

Yes, when there are other, more important things to be teaching kids in 2018. Why would a 5 year old in 2018 need to know how to read an analog clock when they're less and less likely to need that skill than past generations were? There are more important things to be covering in the school day.Scott222C said:

I think it's a big deal for the same reason I think it's a big deal that so many of today's "musicians" cannot play an actual instrument. But hey, why do we need drummers when you can just dial up a loop? What happens in future generations when no one can read a damn clock...or play the drums?

Do you have kids? I have a feeling that you don't. If you had them, I'm pretty sure that you would see things differently. The majority of kindergarten classes now are a full day (as opposed to when I was a kid and you had either morning or afternoon). I don't understand how it would be hard to fit in 15 minutes to a half hour a day to teach kids how to do this. Besides, there's a greater chance of their being some sort of situation where there's a failure with a power grid somewhere, or a situation where there would be no electricity. If a kid can't read a clock, what are they to do?The Zodiac said:
I can still remember learning the clock in elementary school. It didn't take that long, did it? Have the kids put down the tablet for five damn minutes a day (if they can figure out how long 5 minutes is) and learn basic clock. It's not rocket science, dammit.
