I don't care to participate in the thread there, but I can understand the "streaming: why is it so unsatisfying" thread on some level. But it has less to do with streaming in particular, and more to do with just general habits. Like for me, the most satisfying way to listen to music in with my iPod and being out. Anything else feels less enjoyable. Just like it used to be sitting in a stadium chair in my sister's room with a discman (back when she was an infant and didn't actually use her room.) When I first had to rely on streaming after my previous iPod was on its last legs, it was weird at first. I wasn't used to it. But I got comfortable enough with it quickly.
In short, streaming isn't the problem. You're the problem. Get with it, boomer. Or yap up about it.

Streaming, in particular Apple Music, has been a godsend. Listen to what I want, when I want and no clutter.
Fuck them and their physical media.

I listen to a Walkman NW-a45 most of the time, and I don't stream, but 95 percent of my music listening is old jazz. I spent years tracking down the masterings I wanted of my favorite albums. I don't really feel like spending ten bucks a month to listen to the stuff I already bought. But I also know I'm a weirdo. What I don't get is people being anti-streaming, like somehow people who listen to music in a convenient way are somehow lesser fans. When it gets more difficult for me to track down the new music I want to check out either on Bandcamp, or some dodgy site, I'm sure I'll switch to streaming and I'm sure it will be fine. Ritual, the thrill of the hunt, etc... that SHiTEs go on and on about have nothing to do with the enjoyment of music, and everything to do with the collector mindset. Fuck that.

Ritual, the thrill of the hunt, etc... that SHiTEs go on and on about have nothing to do with the enjoyment of music, and everything to do with the collector mindset. Fuck that. Even if I don't regularly stream, I fucking love that I can look up damn near anything I want on youtube. I'm just old enough where I remember when some music was just a click away in a 30 second sample, while a lot more was unattainable save for getting the CD.
Yeah, I'm a weirdo too. I send away for CDs regularly. And for the most part, those albums are readily available on streaming and downloading platforms. Most of the rare and difficult to attain stuff that I have is downloaded anyway. (Looking at a pile of CDs I've bought over the last 6 months, there is only one that I HAD to buy in order to get the contents.)
I love the collecting aspect to it too though. And all the better that I'm collecting something that I then go on to enjoy.
Maybe it's the negative aspect of collecting that leads to anti-streaming. The "I have it and you don't" mentality. The limited edition, numbered, unique, special press. That's kinda STeVE's whole MO, no? "I heard the mastertapes, get on my level. Streaming? Bah, peasants."
Albums will probably remain on CD for a long time to come. Just like how cassettes are still being made, as a stupid collectible crap. But there is plenty of music out there that hasn't gotten a physical release. Even music that is only made available for streaming (which I manage to download anyway...)
I could ramble on about this forever and probably manage to not say anything worthwhile. So I'll leave it at that.

Yeah, the "She's Leaving Home: Who do you side with, all these years later?" thread really got me too. The Internet is huge, but what other forum could possibly have generated such a thing? (Right now, the poll is running Parents 29.6%, Daughter 23.3%, Both 47.2%)
