Paul McCartney's "Come On To Me" Is This Song Not Ready For the PC Age?
However a man of Paul's statue in the music business had to be aware of what has been a media frenzy for every piece of dirty laundry they can get on any celebrity out there. For me, other than Paul's age ( almost looking over the 80 hill ), I don't have a problem with the song , lyrics and all. Consenting men and women have been getting together since time began. Paul has always had a bit of sexual intrigue in many of his songs lyrics. "Hi Hi Hi" , Why Don't We Do It In The Road" are a few examples. I won't give in to the PC Police but I worry that the music industry is the next to take a beating for risky behavior. This is tough for me. I wasn't sure if I am out on a limb, but I am counting on this forum to air out all sides of what I consider is a debatable topic. I hope I am wrong and Paul shouldn't and won't suffer for what are troubled times. I surely don't want censorship of any kind. Let me know what you think.
It ruins everything. Comedy, music, video games, books, whatever. There are limits obviously, but a song like this is nothing.

I don't know if it's all the celebrity attacks or the fact that people keep pushing the PC agenda or what? I am at a loss on how to feel about this song, that Paul has released as a single no less. I mean, first and foremost I am a Beatles Fan of the First Order and if the PC Police get a hold of the music industry there won't be anything worth listening to on the radio or anywhere else for that matter. Just look at how Hollywood is reeling with the accusations against Producers, Directors and Actors alike. However a man of Paul's statue in the music business had to be aware of what has been a media frenzy for every piece of dirty laundry they can get on any celebrity out there. Stop trying to make a controversy out of nothing. Obviously there should be checks on misogyny and racism in popular art and culture, but no-one's calling for the censorship of rather innocuous music. There've been examples of far more questionable lyrics of late in pop music, particularly in hip-hop and its affiliates, so I really think you're making a mountain out of a proverbial molehill.Prudence1964 said:
There's nothing non consensual in the song. Singer thinks a woman is interested in him and he indicates he's interested too if she is. If anything he's checking to make sure it's ok and that he's interpreting her flirting correctly.
