That Roeper review suggests this could be as entertainingly "off" as Oliver Stone's Doors film, but 135 minutes? F that.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” sinks to an audience-insulting nadir when Mike Myers, sporting pop-up Halloween costume shop-level facial hair, appears as a record executive who hears a demo cut of “Bohemian Rhapsody” and tells the band he wants them to deliver the kind of catchy single that will inspire teenage boys to sing along in their car — and that will NEVER happen with this song.” No they didn’t ! Did they really? Fuck me that’s clunky!

Well, this is it. How come Queen lunatics are gushing about this hatchet job? Were they closet Freddie-haters all along?

No, just blinded by hero-worship and unable to tell a good film from a bad one.

I can't understand why the surviving members of Queen took this route -- a movie with actors -- instead of creating a documentary. Surely there's loads of footage that could be used. That in combination with the usual talking-head interviews etc. would, if done well, be much better than this misguided attempt at a self-mythologizing whitewash. Why in the fuck would the filmmakers recreate the band's Live Aid segment when there's actual footage? It makes no sense to me. My son wants to go see this and I'm trying to talk him out of it. There's a lot more money in biopics than documentaries, unfortunately.

If not that, a TV special, and of course the inevitable Blue-ray. But it's probably the best thing the guys could do. A movie like this has potential, but not if it's held back by Brian and Roger. It doesn't seem to add anything new or insightful. It's basically the movie version of what Queen is today: a big budget tribute act. I bet it's a damn good night out seeing Adam Lambert and the band perform live. But this? It's filling a void that isn't there. There are concert films and clips available already. A movie should have more substance than that, really get into the behind the scenes stuff that doesn't exist on film. Even in a movie like I Walk The Line, sure there are many performance scenes, but they punctuate the story and add to the characterization. It's not just "hey, remember when Johnny Cash sang at a prison? Let's do that!"
Forget this, take your son to see... well, uh, not really sure what I'd recommend currently. Order in and have movie night?

Thankfully all the charm in those Roy Thomas Baker albums is in the tape so remixing them won't allow SW to make them super happy clean. He ran a lot of stuff in the red to give it crunch.

When I think of Roy Thomas Baker productions, the first one that comes to mind is Gimme Some Neck by Ron Wood. One of the worst sounding records I've ever heard, especially the drum sound. Ronnie and Baker musta been pretty goddamn high/drunk/both if they thought that album actually sounded good when they played it back. To be fair, the Queen stuff I've heard does sound better than Gimme Some Neck.

And that's a shame, because a few songs notwithstanding, Woody's album was neck and neck with Some Girls.

But anyone who's read my poats over in SHiTEland knows what a big Stones/Ron Wood fan I am, so I'll spare you all here
