My feelings for Ed were a mixed bag, for 43 years.
In 1975, I agreed with Ronnie in the press, that a man doesn't just run out on those that are counting on him. Esp.in the dead of night, like a coward.
Guess that's the opinion I held until 33 years later, when I tripped over the first forum, that carried his name. But as I read more, and more that he had to say there, inc. of course, how he freely admitted he wasn't proud of his actions, but he wasn't sorry either. Of course he explained in detail, what is pretty much common knowledge now, 10 years later.
I began to like what he wrote, and that grew into an actual respect.
Just the other night, watching If I Leave Here Tomorrow, when he realizes he's contradicted himself, and looks into the camera, and says " Okay, I'm a hypocrite."
That's the guy you couldn't help but like.
He invited me out twice.
First, for lunch, before I retired.
When the planned day came, those 1975 feelings came up again, and I begged off.
The second time, was an invitation to the house.
This time I was feeling poorly, and explained as much directly to him, and he understood completely.
I had a feeling when he, and Sharon both stopped posting on Facebook altogether, at the top of the month.
Last week, I asked someone much closer how he was, and he said The Kings had even "gone dark" on him.
Rest In Peace you funny, cynical, always entertaining man.
