After someone makes fun of the cassette release of the Egyptian Station, Paperback Writer lays some heavy truth about the current state of America:
"There is massive poverty and very low income in USA.
Paul has many fans that didn’t have money to convert to CDs or continue buying music anymore. Those that do, buy used cassettes at record shops, Goodwill and ‘flea markets’.
They eventually will get a cassette of this either new or used. A cassette boom box or cassette deck in a very old car is all they have.
Many love Paul. This album will have wide demand. So it’s not just Maccaphiiles or collectors that will cherish this."
So releasing a cassette in 2018 has nothing to do with preying on some kind of guided nostalgia, Paul just wants everyone in America to have access to his new album eventually. It's trickle down Maccanomics!
Meanwhile another Beatard posts that now that he ordered the cassette, he has now bought 12 versions of the damn thing.

Are these black and Hispanic poors, or hard-working white poors whose rights have been eroded by soy-boys?

Jesus Christ.
This is the stupidest argument I've yet heard. I mean like really, irredeemably stupid.
The cassette is there so that mouth-breathing Hoofers can give yet more of their semen currency to their idol by purchasing it in yet another format. It's not there to 'help the poor'. That's just fucking idiotic. You don't have to be on the breadline to know that it's easily available from TPB or somewhere similar, and that it's not worth the cost of the data to even acquire it.
Who is this chump? Paperback Writer? Papercack Shiter more like. Sorry, I'll try harder but I'm just aghast at how stupid they are.

After someone points out the only slightly less insane explanation for the cassette, namely cassettes are cheaper than vinyl so they make cassettes because cassettes are cheap. Our boy, Paperback Writer responds with this word salad:
"Your correct, but when the only source for music is cassette - it gives access they wouldn't have. Also those old boom boxes often came with double cassette fronts, one to play, another to record and pass on the duplicates.
Gifts might create a purchase of these, also.
I guess I just want everyone to be able to enjoy this album, in the final analysis."
I'm fascinated by this dystopia In which people can only afford technology that was outdated thirty years ago, but they are scavenging for ways to listen to new Macca.

Volunteer at the homeless shelter. You'll see lots of guys blasting the new Macca cassette through their homemade boomboxes.
He speaks to them in ways that no one else can.

There are more fruitcakes on that Egypt Station appreciation thread than I've ever seen anywhere on the internet. Unbelievable.

I was thinking this morning how STeVE used to say how “the industry” was always watching the forum. I can guarantee you with the current cast of nincompoops there are zero industry people reading that shit storm.

Does he realize we’re not talking India or Africa circa 2000? Cassettes are dirt cheap to make and major label artists are selling them for more than CDs as essentially cash grab collectibles. Poor people in the US aren’t buying new cassettes.

They'e just downloading stuff for free, like most other people. I found flacs of Egypt Station on the day of its release. They didn't stay very long on my hard-drive mind you.

The industry simply has to read SHtv if it wants to survive into the 20th century.

What an idiot. If you're that poor you aren't saving your pennies for a Macca cassette. You're saving your pennies for a cheap cellphone. Then you can use Spotify free version.
As for buying 12 albums of this thing --- WTF? Seriously. My favorite albums of 2018 I bought one time, on one format.

At this point and for a while now, cassettes are a novelty piece of merch. If you're into that, hey, fine, whatever. I mean, that's basically why I still buy CDs at this point. Just another dust collector to add to the shelf. But ol' Paperback Crackhead is on a whole new level of stupid.
