I guess that Steve tended to reject all the blame on Gray in front of Marsha or his beloved forum readers every time something went wrong with one of their masterings.
Or it could be that Steve found that "Dr. Groove" was a stupid nickname, even according to his own standards.

I seriously doubt that Hoffman did much of anything, as that astonishing video of a drug-addled Steve in the studio attests. Hoffman's name was put on there as a "name" to entice SHites to buy it. That is, until they figured out that all that accomplished was selling three copies to Gnrat, KeithH and MYKE. Kevin Gray probably got tired of having his own name dragged through the mud by being associated with this stooge, and/or maybe just realized what a slimeball Hoffman is as a human being and wanted nothing to do with him whatsoever.
I'd say this is probably as close to the truth you're gonna get.
