Looks like STeVE is high again, this time he admitted to doing what he has always railed against: re-mixing for an official release. This was for Peter, Paul and Mary's S/T album.

Now that AF can be considered a miserable failure and no longer exists, there isn't any business to be harmed by admitting that not only do they not always use "the original master tape", but this time he didn't even bother to use the original mix. He later admits to just how much he stroked his ego and jerked off by remixing about half of that album for the AF release:
Which of course directly contradicts one of many statements in the past he's made against rewriting history:

Why is everything a hypocrisy with this guy?

Since our downstairs flood, all of my check disks have been packed in storage. I need this one to play a client.
The version of LEMON TREE on it is my personal remix from the three-channel original and we need to compare to the old mix.
Do any of you have this and can you loan it to me? Or, can you make me a 1:1 CD clone?
Please PM me. Many thanks.

Found my notes, yes that is my remix as well. It's simply one less layer of tape hiss, mixed from three channel directly to DSD and PCM at Marsh Mastering. A long day. I think about 1/2 are my mixes. You can tell easily. The songs that have a lot of tape his (CRUEL WAR, etc.) are originals. Why didn't I mix that one? A different version was preserved on the three-channel reel, the wrong version. Didn't want to revise history, it's already wrong on the WB CD because of that.ere

The problem with rewriting history is that no modern engineer can truly do a vintage mix. Too many years of hearing modern stuff. The drums are always too loud, details that were subtle before are now punched up in the mix and stuff like that. Engineers can't resist bringing out stuff in new mixes that were meant to be felt or just barely perceived back in the day. Now these "new discoveries" are hanging out there, distracting us from the real emotion of the actual songs. Detail instead of lifelike warmth. Can't stand it. Therefore a 5.1 mix of this album would be really the antithesis of the original intent as produced by Brian Wilson.
