Vince Guaraldi Peanuts Music - Why No Contemporaneous Singles?

First of all, Steve is an idiot, and so is ShockControl for using Discogs as a definitive historical reference. Fortunately, someone did write a book about it, and there was a contemporaneous single: The 2013 Record Store Day issue on Fantasy was a re-issue. From its press release "A faithful recreation of the 1964 Fantasy Records single also includes a new picture sleeve featuring many of the Peanuts characters." (source: recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/6500)These guys have nothing better to do than carp about catalog numbers all day; why don't they write a book or something? "No legal right to do so, unfortunately." cracks me up... Buy an original here: www.45cat.com/record/nc459003usEdit to add, the thread gets even dumber: forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/vince-guaraldi-peanuts-music-why-no-contemporaneous-singles.781529/Turns out, after the Brain Trust figured out the complex contractual stipulations that prevented the release of a single, Chris C. pisses on the fun by announcing he has a vintage single of it. ShockControl, the thread starter, is now an expert on the matter, and tells Chris his stupid single is only a promo. Chris then replies he has not just one copy, but two copies of the single. Bought them at the same time years ago because he knew they were rare. But they are not promos.
ShockControl informs him that Discogs says it is promo only, so it is promo only. But, he allows, either way it wasn't a hit. (which was never the argument in the first place, you weasel) Chris then posts the same link I did. "HERE!" he says, losing patience. ShockControl then reiterates that Discogs says it is a promo, and he wonders again why it wasn't a hit. Someone points out in a polite way that ShockControl is dumb to trust Discogs. ShockControl, who has only insisted four times that Discogs has said there is only a promo single gets petulant: "As I said, "not that they are always correct."" This is the kind of thread I miss. There aren't as many of these as there used to be.

I kind of like this comment. How dare someone pays to use someone else’s creation on their products!

^^^ Like my mum used to say, "They'll find a cure for cancer before they find a cure for stupid."
Discogs is great for what it is, but as a be all end all source of truly reliable information, it's about as trustworthy as Wikipedia.

Discogs is funny. The same five guys vote on every change, and get their knickers in a knot if someone puts "stereo" on a record that was only released in stereo. I submitted a few things, like some local bands and some guy actually was giving me a hard time about something he was clearly wrong about because I was holding the record in my hand, and he had never seen it. So I'm not submitting anything anymore. They suck the fun out of it as much as a SHiTe does.

I submitted a 45 that a friend of ours recorded in 1969/1970 and someone was getting on my ass for putting the wrong date. I marked it 1971. I was like ok, based on catalog numbers of same label releases I probably am wrong, just update, I don’t give a fuck. But that wasn’t good enough so I was like fuck that place, too.

It’s like Wikipedia that way and about as accurate too. I still submit shit from time to time but I don’t bother to respond to the minor things anymore. I told one of the hall monitors he was welcome to edit whatever was bothering him but I had better things to do.
