This tard is actually tempted. I sure hope someone sold MYKE a copy of this over the Forum Classifieds for a grand.

Suppose I don't blame people for being opportunists, when there are idiots with too much money willing to pay for things. But it would be fantastic to see the equivalent of the stock market crash, but with vinyl.
It's probably unlikely but just the thought Mykke waking up to discover the value of his Tom Petty collection (that he spent a fortune on) is now worthless is enough to put a big smile on my face.

A surprising number of SHites are sensible enough to respond, "you're crazy to consider this." More predictably, several SHites chime in to say that there's nothing unreasonable about an $800 elpee at all.
2trackmind observes, "Just because it "looks" mint doesn't mean it sounds mint. I'd want to hear it before I lay out that kind of coin." Also sensible.
Top of page 3, STeVE himelf weighs in with priceless EQ advice: "You go on eBay and buy an old BSR five band graphic EQ for $50.00 (try and get free shipping). Now, hook it up to your receiver through the tape in/outs. Now, go buy an LP of LZII. There are over two million LP's of this album out there. Spend no more than $20.00. Now, play your record and boost the bass and upper mids, just like RL did. OK? How much did you save from the $800.00? Use that money to buy more records. Have fun."
No one has yet quoated or responded to his sage advice.

What the fuck is the RL? Sounds like something DeVoe does to Vickie.

Another passive-aggressive gem from Steve. He knows all the cheap gimmicks and secrets used by people who are actually successful in the biz. Nothing gets by him, no sir. Except for the pesky success part.

What the fuck is the RL? Sounds like something DeVoe does to Vickie. My understanding (as much as I care to research) is that the Robert Ludwig cut of LZII is considered the finest version, but it's quite rare. And also on vinyl, so it won't even be technically flawless. I've heard that album enough times since my teens to know it pretty much off by heart, and no version of it is worth much more than $15 at a push (though I'd like to get a nicer cover than the beat-up hand-me-down in my collection), so paying $800 for it is indicative of extreme stupidity.

Gotcha. Well, $800 for an album because of someone who cut it and not because of anything else is insane. I was just at the local antique store where they have dealers who sell clean used records and I saw 5 or 6 this weekend for no more than $3.

Even Steve thinks it's ridiculous. Not so DaveidMarx and that stupid cat avatard. Thinks he's some kind of expert in trend of collectibles that he's been supposedly studying for years and years. Daveid must be doing well with all that knowledge. Christ, even Mykke seems to have more sense in this thread than this Daveid putz.

The last two guitars I bought weren’t $800 combined.
Is this thing that much more superior than a digital version? And can anything rectify that massive distortion in Heartbreaker?

You could buy two 1971-1973 McCartney boxes with that money, you fool!

Although I'm not a huge Zep fan, I picked up the Complete Studio Recordings CD box at a garage sale a couple of weeks ago for a few dollars. I figured why not; now I'm catalog with Zep. I listened to a couple of the discs that afternoon and they sound fine. I don't need no steenking $800 LPs.
Hell, I have everything on vinyl except for Physical Graffiti and Song Remains the Same from back in the day anyway, nowhere near mint of course. Maybe I should check the deadwax on my copy of II, could be an RL and fund my retirement!
Why'd I buy the CD box if I have the vinyl? It was dirt cheap, and I never play LPs, they're a pain in the ass.

As far as I'm concerned Led Zeppelin II isn't anything you'd consider an "audiophile" experience no matter what the pressing or CD. They played so goddamn loud the mikes couldn't handle it. Page and Eddie Kramer used way too much panning and other late 60's recording gimmickry on there as well. I've got a late 70's/early 80's pressing and it's probably the quietest record I own- I really have to crank the fucker up in order to play it.
But then I don't think any goddamn record is worth $800.

Boy, that kwadguy post about coin-collecting is riveting stuff. I'm decorating my place at the moment and while trying to read his poat, I gave up in favour of watching paint dry.
