If there were PSAs about the insidious effects of Beatardism, beatleroadie would be featured in most of them. He is truly out to lunch... When I was "Melanie Farber" at hoofman's for a spell till I got banned, beatleroadie was sending me frequent sweet sympathetic PM's, thinking I had a vagina. Poor guy.

I don't know if Paul actually approved the Hey Jude album or not. But he might have signed a copy, if that autograph is legit: What I always liked about that cover is the subtle call back to Sgt. Pepper. Here is the band standing with some other figures of sorts. And the Beatle humor of putting George's hat on the statue. Cheeky. I guarantee you just spent more time interpreting this photo than they took taking it.

Jesus fucking Christ...what a bunch of budding Mark David Chapmans. More pathetic than the POTUS.
And these are grown men fer Chrissakes.
The last time I tried listening to the Beatles I lasted about three and a half minutes before I had to turn the annoying little twerps off.

I was listening to some podcast the other day and, for some reason, they played "Paperback Writer." I haven't listened to that song in years, or paid much attention to it when I did happened to encounter snatches of it. But now, lying in bed, half-asleep and hearing it in its entirety, jesus, what an annoyingly stupid fucking song that is. The lyric is not "clever." It is a grating piece of shit of the sort that can only be written and conceived by a couple of pompous twerps fully convinced of their unassailable "genius." Just listen to those stupid, grating harmony vocals. It's bloodless comedy falling flat on its face AND it is delivered with the smug conviction that every utterance they emit is beyond criticism — i.e., it is the worst of two worlds. The Kinks it ain't. Riff-wise it is the prototype for the Monkees, but the Monkees were infinitely better than this song. So you don't like it? My Parlophone mono 45 is completely insane. No version sounds as good as it does. The harmonies are pretty bad though. They must have rushed it to get it out.

I'm a sucker for that Revolver-era stuff and I love the sound of it, especially the guitar and bass. I try not to pay too much attention to pop lyrics.

He finally lived up to the hype when he wrote "Martha My Dear" and "Honey Pie."

What exactly did they think they were doing with this song? Mainly trying to beat a deadline, according to John.
Paperback Writer and 19th Nervous Breakdown both have great hooks and shit for lyrics. I think Paul wrote his on the bus riding to school that morning.

“Paperback Writer” is one the tunes on my running mix. I usually don’t skip past it, but I can say I don’t ever get a hankering to hear it.
“Rain”, on the other hand, is wonderful. It’s definitely on my list of favorite Beatle songs. (Can’t run to it though...)

Our STeVE was right! I saw him sing backwards in the video!!!
I'm Beatles agnostic, but there's still some songs that click with me from the middle period. "Rain" is a fav.

Most Beatle lyrics are quite shit. Good melodies though. The Stones are just perfect. Pure sloppy rock and roll.

I still think we may just see a 25th anniversary Free as a Bird EP released on CD/10" vinyl/digital in October. Maybe there's a bonus track, or maybe it is the original 4 maxi-single songs and that's it. A bonus track would be nice. The famed What You're Doing (Take 11) would fit well.....Or maybe they put out a new lyric/animated video for Christmas Time is Here Again for the holidays... 1. Free as a Bird 2. I Saw Her Standing There (outtake) 3. This Boy (outtake) 4. Christmas Time is Here Again (1995 edit)

Spurred on by Steve critical drubbing of Love Me Do, I played Past Masters today. Had to halt it in the middle of Yes It Is because those harmonies are fucking awful. People like that shit?
