That's no couch, it's just a chair.

Looks like quality control at the Jim Henson Workshop ain't what it used to be.

Looks like quality control at the Jim Henson Workshop ain't what it used to be. No kidding. The puppeteer who used to do Gonzo had a much better feel for the character. (And his singing and guitar playing was much better.)

Hit singles written (not recorded!) years before they were issuedThinking of hit songs that acts had as ‘Aces Up their Sleeve’ but didn’t play immediately. Don’t want to include re-issues here or songs issued outside of the bands existence. Some examples: Zager and Evans ‘In The Year 2525’ was written in 1964, but not recorded until 1969. Procol Harum’s ‘Pandora’s Box’ (a UK hit) was written 1967, recorded 1975. The Stranglers ‘Go Buddy Go’ (another UK hit) was written 1967, recorded 1977. Supertramps ‘Breakfast In America’ was written 1968, recorded 1979. I'm amazed that no one has mentioned "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love" yet. Figured they'd be the poster children for this topic. Both hit singles, both written in the 70s but not recorded until 1995. (To me, home demos don't count as official "recordings.") They were both released long after the group was an active unit though. (YMMV on the active ness of The Threetles, but they were never planned to be a long term thing). And the 70s home demo is still the base of the released version of each, not least Lennons original lead vocals which for obvious reasons couldn’t be redone. I don’t mind them being added to the thread, but I wouldn’t call them the poster children for it as they don’t totally qualify for what I was looking for. It is a judgment call. I suppose the disqualifying statement in your original post (though not in your thread title) is "issued outside of the band's existence." On the other hand, all members of the band (save the one who obviously couldn't be there) are on the recording — and in fact are the only musicians heard on the recording, unless Jeff Lynne slipped something in. And the singles were released under the original band name. So you could say that the band "existed" at least during the time the recordings were made. And from what I understand, by the time all of the digital manipulation was done, there wasn't too much other than Lennon's demo vocal left on the final recording. And as you say, nothing could be done about that.
