There was an actual incident during a 2013 Pete Townshend concert where a guy carried on his shoulders his 7-year-old daughter who was wearing a painted sign asking Townshend to smash his guitar and he told the girl to fuck off. Who the fuck takes a 7-year-old to see a convicted paedophile? I'm not surprised he told her to fuck off. A metre closer and he'd have been breaking the conditions of his release.

"asked to watch it" probably played out like this:
Dad: ok, do you wanna watch The Kids Are Alright or Tommy?
Daughter: can't I watch cartoons?
Dad: Kids Are Alright or Tommy
Daughter: *remembers that scary Acid Queen scene in Tommy* fine, the Kids Are Alright
Fuck that, it's not an authentic experience unless the drummer passes out. The sign should have said "Pete, I want to see a stampede that kills 11 people." That's rock n roll.
My old man went to see the Who in the seventies. He couldn't have given two shits, but his friend was into it. He winds up falling asleep and wakes up when a riot starts because the show was cancelled (and a quick wikipedia check since I can't be bothered to call him places this in '76). Shame he didn't get to hear the last "yeah" in won't get fooled again. It's the greatest moment in rock history.

Jesus. The story says Townsend didn’t even say the words. He also acknowledged that kid was there and was pointing out that the dad was trying to live vicariously through his kid. The dad is a sad sack. I bet the kid fucking hates The Who now. Also, why would anyone want to be near Townsend?
