Cartoonist shite hat on/ The OP in that thread is one of the great alt. comics pioneers. He created the zine King Cat which has been running for 25 to 30 years, and is a true punk rock dude. The comics world tends to bring out a similar obsessiveness as we see at Hoofy's, but he is a sincere and good humored dude. He probably gets a kick out of talking to some wacky old boomers about their enthusiasms. So he gets a pass from me,but I'm not touching that thread. I know it would bum me out to no end. / Cartoonist shite hat off

It's a cheery, upbeat song about a serial killer. Who kills people with a hammer. Which makes it funny as fuck. Plus, how can you not like the rhyme "quizzical/pataphysical".
But yeah, it's got that McCartney twee-ness about it I guess, so whatever. Skip it when you play the album, Macca won't mind.
Fake edit: too bad they didn't throw some Revolver-type distorted guitar on it, might've saved it.

As I age and look at all this old shit more objectively than I did in my misspent youth, I realize that Abbey Road really is a fucking mess. I still like "Something" (no idea why), "I Want You", "You Never Give Me Your Money" (parts of it anyway) and the 3-track thing that ends the album, but I could take or leave everything else.

A true Beatard would rank all the tracks out of 10, first splitting the tracks into 1st tier, 2nd tier etc. They would then follow up by ranking all the Beatles albums in the same manner. Rankers.

Come Together has a certain minimalist charm. Aerosmith's cover is awful.

"Maxwell's Silver Hammer" in many respects lays much of the groundwork for Ram; hard to believe a SHite could hate one but love the other. Sometimes I think they don't understand their heroes on any level whatsoever, not that I am encouraging anyone to like the stupid song. It is more of a song than "Because" or "Sun King" at least...

Ram is a better album than Abbey Road is — like the way Pizza Hut is probably slightly better than the slices they sell at the Quick Stop. Oh, come on, COLA... Ram sucks. It’s a vapid mess that evokes no emotion at all. At least with Abbey Road, the group knew that it would be their last album and endeavored to make somewhat of an artistic statement with it. And the medley on side two was a clever way to fuse a bunch of odds and ends together. The rock press that slammed Ram upon its release was accurate. No amount of modern, revisionist, SHite pontificating can burnish that heaping pile of sheep poo.

With very few exceptions (a few singles and isolated LP tracks), the Beatles' solo careers sucked ass. That band was a textbook example of the whole being FAR greater than the sum of its parts.
