Only a SHite would think pissing in your overcoat is less awkward than talking to people in line and asking them to hold your spot.

I feel I say this every year but especially this year after a brief perusing of the list, I just don’t get it. The few items that I was even slightly interested in are “RSD First” so if in a month or so of I still care, I’d pick them up then. And seeing the amount of past RSD overstock gathering dust and markdowns locally, I can’t think of any reason I’d need to plan a day out like this.

There’s people in that thread taking about camping out the night before to be in line first - for records. I have preordered and I have bought on day of release but I have never camped out for music be it record, cd, concert tickets, etc.

Well, maybe *you* can sleep knowing you might miss out on a Pin-Ups picture disc or a 3" Jack White 45 ...

I've seen some leftover record store day stuff and always think "who the fuck would want to own this garbage?".

I have preordered and I have bought on day of release but I have never camped out for music be it record, cd, concert tickets, etc. I once got to a shop 30 minutes before opening to get a chance at getting a particularly coveted and limited 7”. It then turned out the shop was opening two hours later than I thought, but I’d got my place so I just stuck it out for 2.5 hours and got the record. Five minutes after acquiring said record, I crossed the street without looking and got knocked down by a taxi. Lesson learnt.

I want the "New York" version of Blood on the Tracks, as it has mixes that are not on the boxset. "Idiot Wind" sounds quite different with another organ part. And there are just 7,500 copies. But the nearest store is 200 meters away from where I live, so it will just take me getting out of bed for 9:30am.

And this is exactly why I stay away from record stores. I used to love 'em up until I actually worked in one during college. Being cooped up with fellow music collectors, aficionados, and fanatics in six-hour shifts killed my love of indy record stores. I'll never go back to crate-digging and waiting in lines for limited releases. If there's something that I really must have that is B&M or RSD exclusive, I'll pay a reasonable finders fee to someone on eBay or Discogs or just forget it.
