It plays records. It’s a record player, asshole. A logical answer would have been, “Some people grew up with records and it’s a nostalgic kick to them. Others love the sound because to them it sounds more natural while others just prefer that format.” I will have to ask my dad if he saw it and if so what he thought. First thing he asked me a few moments ago when I met up with him was if I shopped there. I said I used to. He said that guy sounded like an asshole.

This shop is charging $5 to enter an hour early. That might seem like a gyp, but the alternative is waiting in line in the rain with Mean Mr Mayo.

Record Player. Play. Implies child-like fun. Turntables are serious business!

My local news did a live report from one of the record stores this morning. I felt sorry for the reporter (who is fairly new within the last year or two) as she seems to be really nice and sweet in real life because the owner of the store was a real dick to her. “For those of us who don’t have record players why would do you feel that the vinyl format has come back and what in your mind makes it superior?” “The proper phrase is turntable and really those who don’t understand aren’t in line waiting for us to open at 10.” Fuck him. I was at that store a few weeks ago, before the previous owner suddenly passed it was the place to go for used CDs, records, etc. I didn’t even recognize it when I was there and I decided then I wouldn’t be returning. Seeing that this morning confirmed it for me. Does the station put up news clips online? If so, it might be good to grab a copy of that broadcast so we can get some cheap laughs at his expense. And if he turns out to be a bona fide SHite, all the better.

Speaking of SHiTE's....I don't recall the Grand Poobah himself ever commenting on RSD.
Is this like the Beatles remasters where it causes him physical discomfort to actually listen to anything that's not 40+ years old, or something DCC / Audio Fidelity remasterbated?

Confession time: yesterday, at the suggestion of a friend, I went to a shop and queued to get in, then I bought some records.
It was not unpleasant, primarily because I didn't get up at 5am to do it, and was wearing headphones which meant I didn't have to interact with anyone around me (I could see the fellow in front of me was itching to talk about vinyl).
Further, I pretty much bought stuff that I hadn't heard rather than reissues. Some of it is good (glad to get a copy of Backsaturday by Prolapse), and some of it is fucking dreadful - Queen and The Beach Boys might be great bands separately, but the Dennis Wilson/Taylor Hawkins/Brian May/Roger Taylor 7" is an abomination.
Of the old stuff, I have to say that the Blood On The Tracks thing is incredible. I've had to delay playing everything else because this is really great and I keep playing it.

I went out yesterday. Not until afternoon, and I really didn't find the thing I wanted most, but it's a re-issue and I'll find a copy sooner or later. The store was still crowded in the afternoon and my only bitching about that was one young guy who just doesn't get that you need to stand in lines to look in the rows of records. He leaned over my shoulder and started flipping stuff I hadn't looked at yet, and I thought it was rude, so I took a half step back so he couldn't reach anything. A little passive-aggressive I suppose, but he went away so I was happy. There was a woman there that was constantly next to me, no matter what circuitous route I took. It wouldn't have bothered me, but she smelled like the stereotypical record store dude that hasn't had a bath in six months. I totally wasn't expecting that! Most of the people I saw were nice and having fun, though. It was a nice day and there were a lot of people out an about. I thought it was fun.

I bought a Faces box set off the classified section yesterday. I've wanted it for a long time and it was the right price.
