STeVE has remastered remastered titles sometimes. He did it when he couldn’t get his hands on good source tapes, so he ran down to Best Buy to grab the latest remastered CD of whatever album he’s working on, EQs it a little bit, then sends it off to be sold as a DCC or Audio Fidelity release with the words “From the original master tapes” on the slipcase.

I think those Metallica DCCs are re-remasterbated.

When the Nazi assholes over there get bold, I begin to think Hoofy ain't as bad as his fans, but then he constantly reminds us of what a complete lying, thieving asshat he is.

Seriously someone ought to make a database of comparisons between Steve's remasturbations and the originals. Who knows what else would be found...for that matter, anyone can say they worked from the masters considering that any copy originally came from the master tapes in the first place. The reason he may prefer digital copies is because he doesn't know how to work a tape machine. I can't count how many tape anomalies (esp. drag) I've heard on some Hoffman stuff.

I have a really SHite question. If one compares a re-equalized copy of a digital music file (otherwise non-futzed with), will they null each other out?

They ought to be the same length, though reversing EQ is unlikely to be a lossless operation.

I need to see some waveforms. Sparky really wants Gords Gold to sound just right.
