And this is what they've been salivating over? It really is thin gruel being a Beatles fan these days.

Also amusing how so many of these fuckwads are asking for people to share the song with them. Exactly the sort of behaviour they moan about from 'millennials'.

It’s the Glen Campbell version with a thousand more layers of schmaltz.

It’s the Glen Campbell version with a thousand more layers of schmaltz. Ringo cracks me up. He dresses like a (slightly) younger man, the sort who'd say "I used to go to CBGB; I'm old but I'm no sell-out, I'm still fighting the good fight", etc. But his music... It's always like this. Isn't it time someone asked grandpa if he'd like a nice cardigan?

Don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me. Uku and me. And a slide whistle. And a spinning plate.
And that's reality.

Off again....he does seem to like his exclamation marks too!!
Authentic 30 second clips, of a long rumored but unverified studio track ( until now ) have recently appeared online at a WHO fan website !
The song called " It Was You " written by Pete Townshend, is thought by many historians & fans to be Townshend's first song. Rumors of a 1963 version recorded by the Detours was long thought to exist, with Townshend, Daltrey, Entwistle & original drummer Doug Sandom.
However the clip which suddenly appeared online recently, is a 1964 full WHO recording including drummer Keith Moon. The private collector & website owner of WHO memoribilia has posted a 30 second clip, but not the entire song. He claims ( with photo ) its an original acetate from 1964.
The stunning clip with Daltrey on lead vocal, Moon on drums, Entwistle on bass & backing vocal & Townshend on guitar, is clearly authentic. It sounds like the WHO, doing a Gerry & Pacemakers or Beatles style melodic pop song imo !!
In addition to It Was You, a completely different version of the early WHO-High Numbers track "I'm The Face" also appears in 30 second clip form.
The startling appearance of these two tracks, raises the fascinating question, of whether there may be additional unverified early WHO studio renditions of Join My Gang, Dance To Keep From Crying, Ooh Poo Pah Do, or other songs from the early WHO repetoire.
Not sure if it's allowed here, to post these clips or not. If the gorts authorize it, I or someone can post the clips here.
For those curious, a full rendition of IT WAS YOU-can be heard on youtube etc...The Naturals It Was You...a 1964 cover of the song..
I think it's fantastic & hope someone can add more info.. supposedly these predate the High Numbers...but obviously by only a few weeks or at most a few months...the clip on the alternate I'm The Face is clearly very different than the released version. IT WAS YOU, Though a bit washed out, from a 55 year old acetate, seems like a proper finished single, or close to it.
The floor is open ! Can you believe it !

Back to The Beatles with this fucker...
In any case, hate to say it...but the real gold of Ringo & Paul's version of Grow Old With Me, is if it can be succesfully mashed with one of Lennon's versions of it...but to do that succesfully, someone has to figure out, how to marry the 2+ step key difference between the Ringo & Lennon versions...& how probably ( necessary ) to get rid of Lennon's piano with demixing.. When using protools type gear, there are limits to how far you can stretch the pitch.
If Ringo & John's vocal were just a half step apart, maybe even 1 whole step..it might work easily....but with Johns demos using that high falsetto, & Ringo using such a low key...& McCartney nearly inaudible...I don't know if its doable...I hope so. Because 522 of us wanted to hear what Ringo just did. But about 4 million of us, would like to hear an in tune Ringo, John & Paul doing it. I don't know how you fix that huge 2 steps or more key difference between Johns falsetto & Ringo's low key....maybe if Paul sings a note in the middle, & someone can isolate & pull it up, a three note vocal chord could be flown into the chorus..
Joe Walsh's part is kind of out of place on the song too..
As to Ringo being aware of the song Grow Old With Me. Obviously he was. But Jack Douglas had the cleaner copy with John's remarks about possibly saving the song for Ringo. Obviously a 78-79 year old Ringo was touched by that.
PS...I haven't heard McCartney's harmony pulled up in the mix, with an oops trick, I'd like to hear what he's actually doing.. if he's buried because he sounds so bad, or if it's just a bad bonehead mixing choice. johnny moondog 909, Yesterday at 10:55 PM
If only McCartney was buried.
