“(Who does?)” is easily the most cringeworthy part of the post. He’s trying to make it seem like he knows Brian Wilson just as well as most people who actually know him, because according to STeVE, nobody actually knows him well. Of course that’s bullshit because we all know that Brian Wilson would have no idea who Hoffman is unless someone reminded him. Assuming the signature isn’t forged, if he knew Brian Wilson at all, Brian wouldn’t have put Steve’s last name on there. Nor would Steve have asked for his signature. Hoffman insisted that he put his full name on there because his narcissism couldn’t accept anything less. He’s not just “Steve”. He’s legendary mastering engineer STEVE HOFFMAN. Brian Wilson’s signature needs to acknowledge this. The conversation probably went like this: “Hi Brian I remastered Pet Sounds in the early 90s” “Ok thanks.” “Can you sign this? Make it out to Steve Hoffman. That’s H-O-F-F-M-A-N.” “Sure whatever.”

we all know that Brian Wilson would have no idea who Hoffman is most people on planet Earth are unless someone reminded him. (Cruelly but accurately) fixed.

Rather oddly, Tina Weymouth from Talking Heads has an anecdote about meeting Brian Wilson around the time of Stop Making Sense (‘83ish), and him telling her that he was glad she had grown out her hair.
It’s a weird thing to say to someone you’ve met for the first/only time, but seems legit, and indicates ol’ Brian was a fan of Talking Heads and/or Tina Weymouth. So he probably does pay attention, but I’m 100% certain he hasn’t got a fucking clue who Steve is.

Why didn’t STeVE have him sign one of “his” Pet Sounds?

Why didn’t STeVE have him sign one of “his” Pet Sounds? Actually, he did. But, if STeVE ever showed it to you, he’d have to gouge out your eyes...or kill you...(or both). (I can never get that part of it straight.)

“I took a Sharpie from the table in the dressing room. There are always Sharpies around for signing things. I wrote on his record, “To Don: thanks for all the great songs. Brian Wilson,” Don [Henley] was so grateful. It was almost like he couldn’t talk. He turned to leave. “Hey Don,” I said. “Wait a second.” I took the record back, crossed out “great,” and wrote “good.” Some people would have been mad, but Don just looked at it and laughed.” www.spin.com/featured/brian-wilsons-memoir-brings-a-boomer-icon-down-to-earth/

Wait a minute. I thought Wilson was supposed to be nuts. You’re thinking of Thelonious Monk.

Wait a minute. I thought Wilson was supposed to be nuts. You’re thinking of Thelonious Monk. Or Kurt maybe. SO good in "Escape from New York."

“I was in Jerry’s Deli once (in California, darlings) and Brian was sitting there ALONE (right next to Larry Wilcox's entourage), humming "A Day in the Life of a Tree". After I finished my Jerry's Famous Matzoh Ball soup, I walked over and asked if I could have an autograph. He continued drinking his Dr. Brown's Cream Soda and pretended not to notice me until I took my DCC Pet Sounds out of my Oliver by Valentino Men's Vintage Red Matelassé Bomber Jacket Coat. I have 10 minty copies of my DCC Pet Sounds that I'll give away to 10 lucky Forum Members never. He looked through his Ray-Bans at the name on it, did a double take, put down his Deli Sky High Combo sandwich and begged me to let him sign it with my Vintage Sanford Deluxe Permanent Marker. All of a sudden, he could speak my language. I was actually so astounded that I dropped my Fake English Accent and was glad to let him sign “Made in the USA” too. Then he asked me who sang the "Ahhhhs" on A Day in the Life". I noticed the time on my beautiful 85 year old Waltham Curvex style watch and had to leave. Brian teared up and said, "Goodbye, My Host", and then he GAVE me his leftover Roasted Beet Salad and I lovingly carried it back with me to my beautiful mansion in LA. He just GAVE it to me, pal. I just wished that I had my Leica IIIf “Red Dial ST (self timer) camera with me.” ftfy, darlings.
