Imagine John Lennon's funeral and musical send-offIf John Lennon had been given a funeral, what kind of send-off would you imagine and what, if any, kind of musical accompaniment would you think to be most appropriate? Would you have the three remaining Beatles and Yoko perform music and/or spoken word in his memory? Or something along the lines of a choir performing inspiring renditions of his classic songs? Perhaps something more funky and spirited like a New Orleans-style Dixieland funeral promenade(see above)? Then again maybe something more sorrowful like an English-style funeral procession? Thoughts about a procession through New York City with what would have been possibly millions in attendance? Or a preference for what might have been Yoko's choice, something more restrained and austere? I would have been immensely moved by a citywide funeral procession offering me the opportunity to mourn with my fellow fans and for us to pay our last respects. I would have also appreciated a ceremony that incorporated Yoko's period of silence that then transitioned into a joyous celebration of John's life(as best as can be done when someone is so abruptly removed from this world). I’d be front row center at a firing squad aimed at Mark David Chapman. At the funeral? That's some twisted doody right there. I didn’t vote for a funeral. I’d like to see his contemporaries perform his songs? What would the Stones have chosen in 1980? Dylan? How about McCartney? I bet he would have sung Strawberry Fields Forever I believe John watched the funeral for Elvis and decided that he didn't want that when he died.

I love the irony of how Lennon (publicly) espoused peace, yet his purported fans still have uncontrolled bloodlust for MDC’s head some 40 years later.

Or as Karl Pilkington said when the Queen Mum died, they could have different body parts in various locations to keep the queues low.

An hour or more of Yoko shrieking in a bag would have been awesome.

If Wings had played America in the summer / fall 1980, maybe John Lennon would have joined them on stage? Imagine the adulation if that would have happened.

I vote for funky Yoko leading a New Orleans-style Dixieland funeral promenade.

One of the most tragic aspects of Lennon’s death is that new Beatles music could never happen again. I’m convinced that a re grouping of the band, for at least one recording was inevitable in the 80’s primarily because the legal BS was just about behind them. I’ll go further and say if Lennon’s marriage to Ono ended, you’d probably have seen more than one recording plus live performances. Yes this is off topic, hope you can deal with it!

Ya know, I used to think about shit like that.
When I was 16.
But even then, it wasn't as fucked as some of these morons.
What if John played at the '84 Olympics, would Paul have joined him for a ripping rendition of Back in the USSR?
What if the Beatles reunited at Bill Clinton's inauguration instead ofFleetwood Mac?
Would the Beatles have reunited for the Y2K concert, being the last group to play live in the 20th century?
I mean, at some point, you gotta find something else to do with your time.

Upon his death it felt like time suddenly caught up with “life”. The breakup of The Beatles suddenly felt real on a level which it never had before and now felt like a truly, very long time ago.
