The "homeless" people near me keep begging at all of the off ramps from the xpressway. They hold up signs with some saying "Vet needs food." Upon investigation, most, if not all, were NOT veterans. And the food they wanted was drugs. Hundreds of used needles were found under the underpass. All these idiots that roll down their windows to give the guy or gal a buck is just contributing to their drug problem. I once offered to help the individual enroll in a vocational training program, as I work at an educational facility. He looked at me as if I had a third eye.Sam said:
But don't you see, if everyone that pulls up to an intersection gives just "a little," that all adds up to A LOT. Therefore, your little to help the individual "ease their immediate need" is actually adding up with all of the "compassionate" people giving, resulting in a windfall for the drug addict to keep them addicted with an ever increasing source of drug money, all coming from the idio------I mean "compassionate" people rolling down their windows to help.Dave said:
It's all such an unnecessary Schmidt sow IMO. The wealthy are allowed to profit at the expensive of the lessors lives. Just ridiculous.Joseph.McClure said:
It's OK to poop on the street in California, Oregon and Washington?Trace said:
Unfortunately, in Seattle, yes, I guess it is. It wasn't too long ago that I was on S 4th St when some guy came out of his tent, dropped his pants, **** on the sidewalk, pulled 'em back up and went back into his tent. That's the exact moment I became apathetic towards the homeless. The proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back" in my case. I say offer them help and if they don't want it, let 'em die. Instead of wasting tax dollars cleaning up encampment after encampment, just buy a couple of extra garbage trucks and cruise around picking up the OD's every morning.
OK, that's a little harsh, but that's where I'm headed on the subject.

I see them rotate corners they beg at like clockwork. They have some type of agreement with each other. And I've seen the same faces for MONTHS. Young, relatively healthy individuals who could easily work a job. But they don't due to their drug habits. Plus, they make WAY more money begging than they could at any minimum wage job. I've watched and in just a few minutes, I've counted about 2 to 3 cars that gave out money. They are easily bringing in over $20 an hour. Why? Because people like you think they are "helping" them by giving a buck, when in reality, you are just as much the cause for this problem as they are.I'm not a cheapskate. I just recognize that handing out money will only INCREASE the problem, not solve it. Why do you think more and more of these people have set up shop at busy intersections? It's like the signs at the zoo that say "don't feed the animals." There's a reason for that. But some "idiots" think they know better and that the animal looks hungry, and continue to attempt to feed the animal when it fact it could hurt or kill them.

Don't forget that all the money they "earn" from panhandling is completely tax free and anonymous. Only they know how much they're bringing in.Sam said:
But if we all would just give these people a buck each, it will solve the problem! LOL. Seriously, what we need our more treatment and job training centers. In my opinion, if anyone is homeless and found begging or sleeping on the street, they should be mandated first for drug testing. If positive, give them a choice: Jail or treatment. Either way, they will clean up and be removed from the drug environment. I'm not saying that there aren't drugs in jail, but harder to get at. Upon release from jail for drug usage, MANDATORY half way house for treatment, followed by vocational training. It may not work for all, but it will for a good percentage. THAT'S where the money should be going, not into their hands a buck at a time. So if any of you feel the need to give on the street corner, give instead to your local homeless shelter or half way house. And if you really feel that the person is in need of food, by all means offer to buy them a sub or treat them to a diner. More than likely, and I know from experience, they will decline your offer and just want the money instead. Sure, where it quickly goes for something other than food or shelter.Terrapin Station said:
Why don't we try providing housing for them to live in if they want to?I know some won't want to, which is a different issue, but surely part of the problem is that we're simply not helping folks out.

Who is this ''we" you speak of? I struggle and work to keep my own house. Most of them choose not to. Listen, after my almost 25 year career in the record business, where I lived like a king, ended in all the corporate mergers in 2002, I left on a road trip. I ended up on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, the poorest place in America. The Third World right in the middle of Amerikay. I ended up moving there, lived there and the Rosebud Reservation for 12 years. I wanted to give back and help the poorest of the poor. I started foundations, a tribal school, fought and fought and fought and witnessed the saddest **** you could ever imagine. The abject poverty, the racism, the drugs and alcohol, the highest teen suicide rate in the world. We were burying kids every single day. I became numb to it. I finally left in December of 2017. You know why? The main reasons: Corrupt Federal Government, corrupt Tribal Government and the Welfare System. THAT is what keeps people down. It is cheaper and easier to not work. You get a lot more money the more kids you have as well. So now 13 year old girls are pushing strollers. They bitch there are no jobs but no one wants to work. It's easier and a bigger payday with food stamps, WIC, etc. Free housing, free electric, etc. The millions of dollars in donations from all over the world is nothing but a band aid. All I did was nothing but a band aid. Meth has made it worse. Way worse. They would even rob our Day Care Center. Steal from little kids! WTF? I have offered hot thirsty homeless people water and some would throw it or spit it in my face. Water won't get them drugs. We did free meals every single day and some would still complain. Most would steal plates and go try to sell plates of food to the homeless and addicts. I could go on and on with what I saw first hand. So don't suggest some of us have no compassion. And don't fool yourself that giving a dollar or a winter coat will help. It doesn't. Self suffiency is the only thing that will help. Getting rid of drugs too. Jail? Hell that's a hot shower and hot meal for a few days. They welcome a few nights in jail. I'm sorry but I am not supporting able bodied young men and women who CHOOSE not to work, CHOOSE to stand there all day begging instead and CHOOSE to do drugs. Again, Vets and the mentally impaired are a different story. I know immediately who is and who isn't. I tried the compassion bit. I gave up years of my life for it. And it did nothing in the long run. And I will be damned if I am doing it again and letting some of these people invade my space that I worked my ass off for. My turn.
