Track 3 is almost all dead air and the ending section seems to missing from some of the tracks. That part must be "upmixed" from the regular stereo version. I think it supports my assessment that the last minute or so exists only as the original mix and can't be recreated.

Stupid question: If that is the 5.1 mix – broken down into its 5 discreet channels – why is the first one heard here in stereo? I know Revolution 9 was done to 4 track, with a reduction of Revolution 1 on at least one of the tracks. I wonder if the initial pass of tape loops was done to 2 tracks of the 4 track tape, with Lennon doing the sweeping pans at that stage? It's a fascinating upload. The clip I want to identify is the backwards loop of a string quartet which comes in at 1:21 on that video. The audio quality suggests it's quite an old recording. It only appears a couple of times, but I remember it scaring the hell out of me the first time I ever heard I come crashing in.

There have been some incredibly detailed analyses done of the contents. I'm sure someone has identified it by now. www.beatlesebooks.com/revolution-9"Of the classical music pieces heard therein, the following have have cited as their sources: Beethoven's Choral Fantasy “The Streets Of Ciaro,” Schumann's “Symphonic Studies” (backwards tape), Vaughan Williams motet “O Clap Your Hands,” and the final chord of Sibelius' “Symphony No. 7.” Also included are Farid al-Atrash's Arabic song “Awal Hamsha” (just after the seven minute mark), a French horn/Oboe duet, a backward electric guitar, and a tape loop that was previously used in the Beatles song “Tomorrow Never Knows.” Various straightforward sound effects are also heard, such as gunfire, loud crashing cymbals, crowd laughter, breaking glass, car horns, and a crowd of American football fans chanting “Hold that line / Block that kick!,”some sources citing that they come from an Elektra Records Sound Effects album. All in all, at least 45 different sound sources have been identified." I saw a second-by-second breakdown of it too but I can't find it at the moment.

It's official, the almost "complete" concert (missing some jams, warm-ups, etc) available for streaming tomorrow, the same track list planned for the 2020 LET IT BE Anniversary Box set. Getting this out of the way, frees up space on a potentially enlarged version of Anthology 3 for things like Suzy Parker, There You Go, Eddie, Palace of the King of Birds and whatnot. Works for me.

I've played disc 2 of Anthology 3 exactly once all the way through. That was the point I realised Apple was taking the piss.
I'm not sure how removing half the content and replacing it with even worse material will improve things. Especially as that material has been widely bootlegged for decades.

You can't truly understand how awful it is until you've heard the unedited, near-7-minute version.

I don't know if it's in the current edition, but the Rare Record Price Guide has had the 1st mono press of Revolver value varying by £100 depending on if you find the price in the standard albums or mis-pressings section.
Anyway, believe it or not, I got to play grade one or possibly two of these: the one I remember for certain was fairly trashed but playable. I clearly don't enjoy the song that much as I couldn't pinpoint for certain any major differences, I guess the loops may mix in and out at different times as per the mono/stereo White Album mixes of Blackbird/Piggies. I'm surprised it hasn't made it out since though.
I briefly owned Anthology 3. I no longer do. There's bit I like on both of the previous collections but I can't remember the last time I put either of them on. I don't like the outfakery nature of some of it. That said the version of Here, There & Everywhere that was assembled for one of the singles is quite lovely.

. That said the version of Here, There & Everywhere that was assembled for one of the singles is quite lovely. One of the most deeply-set traumas of my teen years was listening to the CD of Free As A Bird on the listening post at Our Price aged about 16. A gang of teenage girls came in, picked up the spare pair of headphones on the listening post while I was in the middle of Here There And Everywhere, listened for about ten seconds, then looked at me and burst out laughing at my nerdy lameness. Absolutely brutal.

The first press version of the mono Tomorrow Never Knows has the vocals louder. It's actually a later mix apparently, and was pulled in favor of an earlier one (which probably explains why it was accidentally used at first). It's out there in pristine quality from a vinyl rip. Would it be cool to have a proper digital release? Sure. Given Apple's track record in the past few years (Penny Lane promo from a shitty rip, Goodbye demo from a shitty rip, I Me Mine mix possibly processed to sound shit) what is already out there might be the best it'll ever be.
I like that Here There And Everywhere too. As much as I like genuine outtakes, it's fun to also hear stuff remixed for the purpose of appreciating the work that went into it. One of the coolest examples is actually on the LOVE album. The mix of Strawberry Fields Forever evolving from different versions works so well.

I really like the Love album, and I agree about Strawberry Fields on there.
While I'm here, there's nothing musically at all to be excited about, in my opinion, the 'loud cut' Rubber Soul.

I think the impetus for re-issuing and expanding Anthology's 3 albums could be the documentary being upgraded and released on a Streaming service. I could see a scenario where the soundtrack albums are remixed and re-released in one big box set, with a bonus disc added. If anything, I see an expanded version of Anthology Highlights being put onto physical media to celebrate the streaming presence. The additional material seems more and more earmarked for these album SDEs and a catch all to be offered later on — maybe a multi-disc set that covers some of the takes not included with some missing track takes in between. Only time will tell.
