The OP, a newbie named "Greg Kelly":
"As a newer forum member, I'm not sure if this will be received as a valid thread..so if a moderator removes it, so be it. Looking for some vinyl related input...I recently have been talking to friends and colleagues, but as non-music lovers (and non-vinyl collectors), they just don't get it. This seemed like a place I may get some sound advice. I'm gonna make this succinct as possible. Here goes....
1991, new college roommate. Not a lot in common, except music. Lived with him for a year, and became friends, but not close. We butted heads often. I graduated. He never did, and moved in with a girl, while I moved to a different apartment, traveled overseas etc. Upon my return to the USA, we reconnected, and went to lots of concerts..listened to lots of music, but still butted heads...just very different people.
I kept my crate of records at his place, as I had no turntable at the time. Here's where it gets tricky. His girlfriend left him, for good reasons. She and I eventually got together (and just celebrated our 20th, two kids, etc.). He's doing fine, as I know through old mutual friends. Just so I don't get judged, there was never any "monkey business" while they were together, and he and I tried to remain friends, but have not spoken in 20+ years. I never reclaimed that crate of records! It contains beloved stuff...1st three Run DMC, 1st two Public Enemy, Fat Boys, lots of 12" singles, and a rare Boogie Down Productions Man and His Music double LP remix album to name a few, all purchased around their time of release.
Who here would try to get them back? Do I, after all these years, just forget it? I'm torn, but my recent unearthing of all my old rap cassettes has got me wanting them...."
Only on Hoffman's forum would this ever even come up for discussion...
