I'm sure I'll get harassed for admitting this here, but I love VH. Doesn't matter who is singing. And I have my reasons. But it just stands to reason that as soon someone under the age of 30 doesn't know them, the sky is falling. Just imagine the horror if she didn't know the Beatles! I wish my life was so pedantic that I got all worked up over that. You're related to Gary Cherone? Asking Billie Eilish to know a lot about Van Halen is akin to asking the Beatles to be Bing Crosby scholars, with an even longer gap between Van Halen's heydays and Eilish's debut.

I might even BE Gary Cherone. But don't tell Zoot Marimba that. He's probably still beating off to the poster of David Lee Roth that came with one of the early albums. "Masturbating sucks, but man, this is such a good lotion". Anyway, back to the Shiites. Have their been any posts about her being "a flash in the pan" or "flavor of the week"?

Oh, before I forget. Another poater that is a real fuckmuppet is vamborules. If he doesn't like it, it doesn't exist. It's his world, we're all just living in it.
Glad I decided to peruse through that thread after all! I think I'm gonna poat "Sammy Hagar" in that thread just to watch the usual thumbdick fanboys start whining and crying.
Like fish in a barrel.

With the exception of Van Halen III and the Hagar reunion tracks, I also love Van Halen, but I don’t begrudge a child born this century being unfamiliar with them. People keep saying they “paved the way” for her; no, they fucking didn’t.

Imagining a remake of the movie Yesterday, where it’s Van Halen that is not remembered. Only this time, no one cares enough to try to bring the music back. It ends with life going on just fine.

The dirty little secret not known on that forum is that some people have their own tastes and don't follow the crowd on everything. Let's not tell them and just keep enjoying the laughs. PS, good call on the reunion tracks. Blech.

They peaked with Fair Warning, slide came fast after that. Van Hagar is hot garbage.

You are correct, their world is much more narrow and restricted. I wasn’t oblivious to Chuck Berry or Buddy Holly in the 80’s. The younger generations are very much uninformed of great music and popular culture from just 20+ years ago — and it hasn’t always been that way. You miss the point. Her generation often doesn’t know who Led Zeppelin is, who Elvis is, are clueless about Clapton and Bowie, Peter Gabriel, etc. They recognize The Beatles as a trademark on t-shirts. They are unfamiliar with some of the most important and influential music of the past 25-50 years, music and artists that in a number of instances changed the world and influence culture to this day. We aren’t talking about something 200 years old here. Sorry, but it is a bit disturbing. If one is a casual listener at 20, they may not know much, but a general familiarity with major historical artists that produced major works should not be outside the realm of possibilities, especially for a contemporary artist. I may not have listed to much jazz at 15, but I knew the name Miles Davis. Who said you were obligated? And by the way, Edward Van Halen was hardly a pop idol, but his guitar work and music pioneered an aspect of music for a generation of musicians and the public. He made a slightly greater mark than Frankie Avalon. Once in a while, a young co-worker will ask me what an old song from the 70s or 80s is. My instinct is to go off on them but I control myself, remember that I am older, and simply answer the question. I have to remember that they didn't grow up in the same world as I did. Just last night we heard "She Blinded me With Science" and someone asked me who it was. I told them it was Thomas Dolby and was a huge hit single in 1983. Then, a teenager thought it sounded more like the 70s and I mentioned that the technology for the song was way different than the early 70s. He got offended by the correction, though. Even at the age of 12 in mid 80s, I was very aware of musical acts from 20-30+ years prior. Even if I may not have known their specific songs. To ignore what came before is always at ones peril. They dismiss movies/tv shows in b&w as unimportant because it’s not in color, but post all over Instagram how artistic their photos are because they added a b&w or sepia filter. Right?!? Even if VH is not her thing, as a musician, she never had the slightest curiosity about the guitar on Michael Jackson’s Beat It? The lack of curiosity is what disturbs me. Yet she knew of the Spice Girls who were has beens before she was even born...sad but again depends on what she is exposed to and interested in. Yes she’s only 18 but should still be a little more knowledgeable of music(which she seems to be at least in her interests) Yes time changes but the past still haunts. Ask her if she knows who The Beatles are.

These are the same assholes who post "Who is Drake?".

I’ll bet the average SHite couldn’t even identify Lester Young let alone Coleman Hawkins, Johnny Hodges, Ben Webster, etc. My instinct is to go off on them for being so ignorant about music. I’m controlling myself but the lack of curiosity is what disturbs me.

They’re overlooking the most important question of all: has Billie Eilish seen Song of the South?

That's it. The world is over. For shits and giggles I just asked two coworkers who are both aged 42 the same question. They didn't know what band George Harrison was in either. Which proves one thing. The Shites are fucking morons.

Honestly, over here Van Halen are known for Jump and that's it. I've never heard anything else by them, and honestly don't feel like I'm missing out. It's a bit like asking Adele if she's heard of Dexys Midnight Runners, I think?
